2K's announced that its elusive XCOM reboot will now be released on PS3 as well as PC and Xbox 360.
In its latest release, which comes after a year-long drought of information on the former Xbox exclusive, 2K confirms that the first-person shooter will release on March 6, 2012 in North America and March 9, 2012 internationally.
2K's previously described XCom as "the re-imagining of one of gaming's most storied and beloved franchises", claiming that it "combines the strategic core of the groundbreaking franchise with a suspense-filled narrative and distils it into a tense and unique first-person shooter experience".
The series reboot features an origin story that pits Special Agent William Carter and his veteran team against "the threat of human extinction," the publisher says.
"Every enemy is an opportunity - players will strike surgically against the alien menace, capture their technology, and by the science of desperation - turn the invaders' weapons against them."
Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K, said of the news: "Every time I think of XCOM it gives me the chills, the kind that come from standing witness to the corruption and destruction of your world as you stand powerless to prevent it.
"I'm pleased to announce today that we will be bringing this experience to an even broader audience when XCOM comes to the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in March 2012."

It reminds me of Wolfenstein( the 2009 one), you do not want something that reminds me of Wolfenstein.

Two things.
Firstly, didn't realise it WAS an exclusive.
Second - GOOD! The less exclusives, the better, as far as I'm concerned. No matter which side of the fence you sit, it's really crud missing out on a great game because you are 'reluctant' to shell out 2-300 quid to be able to play it on whichever console you don't currently have...

I like the art style... not so sure about the graphics. I would still like a new XCOM strategy game though... big time. Enemy Unknown is still my favourite strategy game of all time.

Agree totally, maybe an arcade release would be a good idea seeing as the 'mainstream' doesn't do proper turn based strategy any more

The original "Enemy Unknown" had better graphics than this. As a fan of the series I am very underwhelmed.

I am intrigued but I think what the trailer truly lacked was personality, it was just random clips with no real structure. Usually trailers have some kind of narrative to put everything in context.

Didn't realise this was an exclusive to 360 and pc is it me or do microsoft let all there deals go south or do the just throw there chaque book at a company say makes a game and then say we aren't going to pay up I don't care that it not an exclusive but microsoft just let things slip like mass effect.

I was thinking the other day what had happened to this. Man this is great with all the news coming out and all like christmas for gamers.

Nice to see another game jumping off the exclusive bandwagon. Exclusives are my biggest peeve in gaming. Sure, most of them are brillant but everybody deserves to play them without having to shell out on a console they may not like.

Yeah its bad that you miss out on a good game, but even worse if its watered down because its a multiplatform.

Was also my favorite game on the Amiga1200. Damn I still have the amiga under the bed and Enemy Unknown is in the cupboard somewhere.
Tried connecting my Amiga1200 to my 40" LCD tv via a scart lead last year.....picture is truly awful!

I, too, didn't know it was prevously announced as exclusive. Anyway, I don't care. This is not XCOM. XCOM is a turn based game of planning, strategy, attacking and defending. This... This is just another first person shooter. Bummer
!!

They still obviously have no idea what made Xcom such a great game.
It certainly wasn't waves of aliens coming through a portal to shoot people with lightning cannons while they stand behind a waist high wall.
This isn't ticking any boxes with me whatsoever

I was absolutely gutted when I read it was an XBox exclusive. So happy to hear it is not now. I really want to play this on my PC and there would be no way in hell I would buy and XBox for just one game. Very pleased.

Microsoft is going to need to announce some big exclusives this E3 to appease their fanbase if this has went multi-platform.
KMakawa on 4 Jun '11 said:
The "Phase" of exclusives is clearly dieing out. It shows that what with this, but also Kojima's next title will be multiplat too.
kmcroc on 4 Jun '11 said:
it was always stated from the start that it would be Xbox & PC exclusives.never just Xbox.

EXCLUSIVES will continue to be around only they will be refer to as first party games.

Am I the only one who prefered the look and dynamic of the first trailer they released..? Was really looking forward to it; it looked like it might be a sort of crime-scene-investigation-meets-alien-invasion. Now it just looks like your average all guns blazing alien invasion game...
