The first Hitman: Absolution screenshots have seemingly leaked online ahead of E3, thanks to a Spanish website.

The IO sequel is due to see its debut trailer drop at the Los Angeles expo on Wednesday, June 8 at at 10:47am PDT (6:47pm BST).

However, a behind-closed-doors showing for the IO-developed sequel looks likely for this Sunday, June 5, after we caught wind of a secret part of Hitman developer IO Interactive's website, calling for our presence at a very special event.

IO says Agent 47 will face his "most dangerous contract to date" in the game, which is being built using Glacier 2 - proprietary technology developed by the Danish studio - and is set for release next year.

According to publisher Square Enix's official blurb: "Betrayed by those he trusted and hunted by the police, Agent 47 finds himself at the centre of a dark conspiracy and must embark on a personal journey through a corrupt and twisted world, in his search for the truth."

What's going on in the first pic, are they trying to make him like Batman now?

Mmmm I would have thought that he would always be on the run from the authorities seeing as his occupation is hardly within the boundaries of the law. But hey if your a PR department making up blurb for the masses, then I guess any old s**t will do. As for the game well I have never been a fan of Hitman, the first was interesting but broken on the PC but I never felt that interested by the sequels and God know's I tired. I just wish that IO hadn't f**ked up everything with Freedom Fighters, now it's a EA IP and I am guessing IO/Eidos can't do anything with it. And those bloody Kane & Lynch games were awful, no way as good as Freedom Fighters. I think I might just throw in Freedom Fighters again because it's IO's best game to date. Anyone heard of Freedom Fighters?

Yeah, now that was a game to behold. Genuinely entertaining and a smart approach to ordering your teammates. Loved every moment, and am so surprised that it has not been resurrected to date. What a shame......

I'm glad that agent 47 is back, and like most people I will be glad to see the back of the Kane & Lynch series! Bit of a shame really as with all IO games the characters were interesting, it's just a shame that the execution was so poor.

My initial thought was, how the hell did 47 get up there?!?!

My first thoughts just from the pictures is Contracts blended with Blood Money, which to me is no bad thing really. I always liked the seedy twisted atmosphere of the former and the gameplay elements of the latter. His face seems to have once again changed, looking a lot more generic compared to the puglike expression of C:47, the serious look of Silent Assassin, and the sincere scowl of BM. With the shinyness of those pictures it doesn't seem to be entirely changed from the Glacier Engine used in the previous game. I can see the way he got up to that high a level being done the same as the context sensitive climbing from Blood Money. With a series like Hitman, I would just honestly like more of the same, just on a grander scale. Not like a whole lot of other game series suddenly changing direction to appeal to a bigger audience (I'm looking at you Splinter Cell). So as long as this is, like the devs have said, gone back to the kind of atmosphere seen in Contracts with a similar approach to gameplay as Blood Money, I shall remain a happy fan of the series.

My only worries right now are all this dev talk about replacing Diana's voice actress and shoving a load of semi celeb actors into the mix. If this seriously turns out to be a disappointment like I am worrying then.. I'm going to be seriously p**sed off.

Don't quote me, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure he's wearing a British police officer's uniform in one picture? Agent 47 in the UK? I just shot a load.

Not a british uniform please, the daily mail will call it a sick recreation of raule moats murder of a policeman.

Hehe ok I'm quoting you (sorry), but the police officer's uniform is actually that of a Chicago cop - apparently both of these screens are taken from the Chicago level, which will be shown at E3.

And Agent 47 has already visited us in dear old Blighty back in Hitman: Contracts (albeit for only one level).

What a level! Nothing like throwing a gas canister down a chimney to kill those too toffs and smothering the old duffer in his sleep. I might go play that now and pretend that it's the Cameron family!

According to CVG's FB page they've already seen a gameplay video for it and their "breath was taken away".

    Ahh fair enough. Thanks

Hopefully we see it some time this week. Probably as a stage demo.

I bow to your knowledge - it is indeed a Chicago-set level. And the level in the manor was fantastic.
