Sony is in no rush to launch PlayStation 4, according to Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida.

The site reports that Sony's E3 focus will primarily centre on PSP successor NGP, which is heavily tipped to be named PS Vita.
Late last month, Sony seemingly confirmed that it has already begun PS4 development.

thank god, not to mention it seems reasonable as why put focus on two products rather than one? Plus by the time the new consoles come around, ps3 will still have a lot of power behind it before it needs to upgrade at a more affordable cost

Let's see if this changes when a new Xbox comes closer to release (or the next Nintendo console). I am in no rush for the next generation myself but lets fact it, Sony don't want to give the consoles a year headstart like this generation. Unless Sony plans to put their own consoles on a different life cycle to that of Microsoft and Nintendo, I can't imagine Sony waiting too long.

good to know i am fine with both the 360 and PS3 right now,get back to us in say a year or two

Wouldn't make much sense for them too, either. Still got more to go in this generation of consoles and even if Nintendo's next console smashes everything out of the water then 3rd party games will likely be capped at 360 and PS3 levels for a little while yet.

I think both Sony and Microsoft will wait to see how big the new Nintendo console is, in my opinion they've done the right thing with keeping the NGP as their main attraction, i think it could go either way next year though, if Cafe works out and sells way ahead of the current 360 and ps3 i do believe next years E3 will reveal proper Next Generation consoles from both Sony and Microsoft, however if it doesn't sell too well i don't think they'd even bother revealing a PS4 even next year.

Yep that makes perfect sense to me. From a selfish point of view I am really enjoying my PS3 gaming at the moment, and wouldn't want to consider the next generation for a good 3 or 4 years yet. The more I hear about the NGP (or vista) the more interested I get, but I don't think I could justify forking out for one just yet.

things have changed. development time, costs, staying power of newer tech...
it'd be flat out dumb to upgrade just because it's been 5 years.
no way i'd pay for a new console to get the difference between a ps3 or 360 and the highest end PC today.
it just aint time.

Both consoles are out of date now.
but nobody has any money still so
no new hardware yet.

I hope Sony will be last again, so they can release a machine that hosts the latest technology and this time release it without the bottlenecks the PS3 has (RAM). And it's also great to have a console that is well tested and won't break within a few months (or earlier).. M$

Good, I only bought a PS3 last year and I'm in no mood to have to upgrade again just yet, though Sony are pretty good with their systems and unlike Nintendo and (I think) Microsoft they actually leave the older model on the market for a fair bit after the new systems release.

Focus on the NGP? I hope it isn't as bad as Microsoft's conference where they focused on Kinect, it was horrible, just horrible.

No surprise. I'm pretty certain Sony will be the last major console maker to move into the next generation. At the moment, the PS3 seems the most future proof of the 3 consoles.

I am really happy I chose PS3 over 360 - I would have loved to get both but I can't even afford to get the stuff I want only for the PS3. Bluray and the reliability were what clinched it for me
The games that are coming out are stunning. More exclusives than I have fingers
I would like to see better support for Move though. I tried the No More Heroes demo and it was dire - even the Wii-mote handled better than that. I do think that a ten year life cycle was always silly. Technology develops much faster than that!
That is one thing Microsoft got right... getting out the door first. 55 million sales is proof of that and they could go on to their next console happy that they have several years lead on the next Playstation too
It would be a real shame though if they really do want to stretch to ten years with the 360 on the back of Kinect

It's still way too early in the PS3s lifespan, and seeing as not many people have 3DTVs, and they're pushing that on PS3 right now, I can't see PS4 for at least 5 years.
