Sony has told CVG that an official announcement of the PlayStation Vita UK price will be made "later in the year".

However, a source close to the company was very confident that a UK RRP of "somewhere close to £235" was in the offing for the WiFi SKU, speaking earlier this evening in L.A.

Sony has so far only confirmed US ($249), European (E249) and Japan (YEN 24,900) price points for the model, whilst the 3G-enabled premium SKU will retail for $299/E299.

The platform holder confirmed at its E3 2011 conference this evening that the console would be available to buy before the end of 2011. Best get saving for Christmas.

    Same here.
Not a totally off-putting RRP either.

I really hope that price is wrong, I'd rather not pay nearly double what the US is paying

$249.99 =/= £235. Consumers are too wise to the facts these days. The Vita is looking like a very nice piece of kit but I won't pay over the odds for it, especially when our friends overseas are getting the exact same product for a more affordable price.

They'd be smart to set an RRP of £199.99. Sub £200 will be the sweet spot for many.

Well personally I think it's a bit much considering $249.99 Converts to £152.69...But I would Pay anything under £200 to have one of these it looks fantastic. and I can't wait to see what the developers are up to!

Always expensive at release wait a year for all the second/ third gen with all the software/ hardware fixes unless you are rich or really want this. I never buy launch hardware it just does not last longer than a few years and is bad investment. I bought a launch PS2 for £300 back in the day and it didn't play Purpel disks so I had buy new one!

If it really can play PS3 games on a small screen, this may be worth the price. I'd still want to try before I buy, I'm worried the controls might give you quite bad hand cramp after a while.

$250 will cost you £158, add on tax that's about £190, a much more comparable price. They probably have to pay a load of import taxes on top of that as well, it's all comparing apples and oranges really. We generally pay more for hardware in the UK, but we can get games a hell of a lot cheaper.

I'll be getting mine from Asia... $299 is roughly £181.42.

£235 isn't bad, certainly far better value than the 3DS.

the 3ds is £180 (the black one is £160 on amazon wtflol) so pound for pound the value is probably the same. But obviously this all comes down to games so we wont see the true value until a far later date

Still a lot but if you've been relishing the release of it, you'd pay £300 or so for one. Can't say I've been a huge handheld fan since the Game Boy Advance, not a lot's come close to that for pure fun. The PSP is watered-downville and the DS is a mini game and educational magnet, not exactly what you look for in a gaming system. This should change all that, if the games are full fat versions.
