The first ever Tomb Raider gameplay footage has finally hit the internet following its showing at Microsoft's E3 press conference yesterday.
As you can see the franchise reboot is a far grittier affair than we're used to from the Tomb Raider series.
Lara, for example, seems vulnerable and scared rather than confident, and the content is generally more mature.
The first Tomb Raider trailer that came last week was a completely cinematic affair but impressive nonetheless. Haven't seen it? Go and have a look.

Usually tomb raider games dont interest me, but i must say this looks pretty impressive. Looks like it has the potential to take on the uncharted games head on.

After the s**tfest that was Uncharted 2 colour me excited.
And before you fanboys f**king rant, I know I'm in the minority, I love one, I just didn't dig two at all.

I'm really interested in this. Looks gritty and also gorgeous visually. I loved the fact that Lara fell down at one point during E3 and felt the need to back her ass up to the camera

Is this a prequel or a complete reboot?

Reboot I think. A really good reboot by the looks of it

Ahh that makes sense with the presence of GPS and Laura being young. Thanks

It's a complete reboot for the series apparently. I was looking forward to seeing some footage, then she started friggen talking to herself - I get she's supposed to be more vulnerable and inexperienced in this - but she was sounding like she needed a jacket. Maybe it's just the 15 years of Tomb Raiding talking and my ears need to adjust to her new voice and personality. All I really hope is that she won't be a wuss the whole game. In short, harden the f**k up, Lara. The game looks fantastic though and I'm looking forward to it.

This looks ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!!!!
Next Gen style graphics and dark gritty gameplay.
I loved the vulnerability and fear she felt and the cinematic feel and the way the camera moved around Lara, especially the 'First Blood' crawling through the caves with torch scenes.
If the full game can keep this level of detail, action and suspense then look out Drake, i honestly feel the franchise will be totally reborn and financially back on track too.
The original Tomb Raider is back in a big way!!!!!!!!!
CANT WAIT!!!!!!

Yeah I noticed that to! She sounds like shes on her death bed!

You're missing the whole point of the game here. What's the point of rebooting the series and taking it in a completely new direction if you have the same bad ass Lara blowing away everyone who gets in her way??? It'd just be the same as all the others.
This is a young, inexperienced Lara who gets thrown into an extreme situation where just surviving is an achievement in itself.I mean, who wouldn't be s**tting themselves if they had to go through what we saw in the vid??
I thought it looked absolutely superb and along with Skyrim, is right at the top of my most wanted list. GOTY 2012? Could well be!

Tomb Raider should be banned!
She kills wild animals. Well I say wild, I'll bet they're f**king livid having that bint use them for target practice.

Well, she's hardly in Harvey Nichols sipping a latte now, is she?
This is looking great, really great! Looking forwards to seeing how the open world game play works out.

Also for anyone who watched the demo at the MS conference yesterday: Did anyone else think it sounded very dirty for the 5 minutes?

You misunderstood me, what I'm saying is, I hope she doesn't act like that through the whole game. I don't expect her to pull a shotgun out of a magical tiny backpack and start blowing chunks out of everything that moves -- I expect her evolve, adapt to the situation, be less afraid and do what she has to do -- Like the Lara we know, but not to the teflon extent.
flash501 on 7 Jun '11 said:
Fair enough. Like you said, I'm sure she'll evolve as the game goes on, starting off as a scared, vulnerable young woman and eventually toughening up as she learns to cope with the whole ordeal.
@rbt, shut up you tart!

rbt told me earlier he thought this looked a bit s**t flash!

You shurely are a s**t shtirrer, EM.
And why am I talking like Shteve McClaren?
El Mag on 7 Jun '11 said:
I had to get away from that killing Jordan thread, if we say anything and she actually does get flame grilled it'll be used as evidence.

El Mag a s**t stirrer? No, he's just an adorably mischievous badger.

Couldn't give a flying fart tbh, it'll be PS3 all the way for moi.
Evidence makes it sound like you'll get in trouble for being linked with her demise?

It was going that way, here take a look.

Gameplay trailer? Erm, what gameplay? Move along a predefined route, press button when blue icon tells you too, annoying QTEs followed by more press the button when the blue icon says so. It's pretty but I see no gameplay here. I was hoping for open levels with multiple routes not an 'interactive' cutscene. I really hope the rest of the game isn't like this.
