GAME has started taking pre-orders for PlayStation Vita, listing UK prices of £229.99 for the Wi-Fi version and £279.99 for 3G one.
Sony has so far only confirmed US ($249), European (€249) and Japanese (YEN 24,900) price points for the lower-spec model, whilst the 3G-enabled premium SKU will retail for $299/€299.

Sony confirmed at its E3 2011 conference this evening that the console would be available to buy before the end of 2011.

I want one because ridge racer will be on it..... lol
I'm not happy because the price is a con compard to current and average currency conversions. Once again the Uk gets nicely bent over but i guess im used to it and like i said ho hum.......
As long as they get the download side of it right on the network store and prices are better considering its cheaper for them to distribute games this way they could finally turn the Nintendo handheld vice like grip, or at least make a bit of a dent.
I will still buy box versions though whilst i can, just love new manual smell..... he he

If its anything like the 3ds launch, it wont stay at that price for long and you'll easily be able to get one at sub 200.

Got to factor in VAT here is much higher the the US.

I really dont get that I looked on XE and $249 converted is 151 so why the hell do they need to add on an extra 70 to the thing. It better end up like 3DS and go down. I hope the supermarkets cut the price.

The US doesn't even have a national VAT, it's dependent on states, so the price shown in dollars is without tax at all (it gets added onto the price when it gets sold in specific states)
Even so, from my (admittedly rushed) calculations the Wi-Fi only model should only cost around 185 - 190 (VAT included)
My working:
20% of 250 = 50
250 + 50 = 300
So,
$300 into = 183
It's probably wrong

You have to factor in that the US doesn't have a national VAT

GAME initialy mixed up the prices on each version, stating the Wifi would be 279.99 and the 3G version 229.99. Those of us who got a preorder in before they changed it a few mins later were lucky enough to have the preorder honoured!
Qty MediaID Description Price Total
1 Sony PlayStation Vita (3G version) ... 229.99 GBP 229.99 GBP
-----
You may have noticed that the price of Sony PlayStation Vita (3G version) on the GAME site has gone up to 279.99 GBP
Please do not worry, your credit / debit card will be charged with the lower amount as originally agreed when you placed the order. This is merely one of the benefits of the GAME 1st To Play Preorder Service!

i think american money just goes further as a whole compared to what we get for our cash over here.

You also have to remember how much GAME try to charge over the odds, or at least the maximum RRP. "Discount? What discount? You mean pre-owned? You don't want new, you want something someone's already tried and tested" (and returned because they weren't happy with it) - summary of my conversation with a GAME employee when I asked about the 3DS and if they were lowering the price due to poor sales.

229.99 is not bad as a launch price considering it will launch with 80+ titles.
It'll hopefully fall below 200 after 6 months to a year because the handheld market is swamped with products. I don't see PS Vita doing much better than the PSP unless buying a PS3 game on Blu-Ray also unlocks a downloadable PS Vita copy. I don't see myself picking up 2 versions of any game (PS Vita + PS3) just to share game saves and be able to game on the move. OK, well, other than Gran Turismo...

I don't think it will launch with 80 titles.

Thats true, they sure love their items in bulk and the big box stores like walmart are left, right and center over there meaning their market for cheap imports and manufacturing is through the roof. I think the dollar inflation is pretty high over there as well.

Ive pre-ordered from play for 229, ill be getting one from HMV but at least I have an order in
almanac2015 on 7 Jun '11 said:
80 in development, not on launch.
Not a bad price overall. I won't buy it on launch because rarely do launch games impress me, but after a year or so with a price cut and a bunch of games I'll be interested.

I'll bet it does and every single one of them will be worth buying....
lalalala....i'm a tree I'm a tree.....

Aye, my mistake. 80 titles somewhere in the next year or so = more appropriate! Still a good 6 months off PS Vita launch.

Sony's Jack trenton has said on GTTV that the Vita will be available in all regions by the end of the fiscal year 2011.Which means by April and not December. He said at least one region would have the console by christmas (Asia).Other regions would have to wait depending on the production of consoles.

You're confusing VAT with Sales Tax, they're two seperate things. And there is tax included in the US price, if not then items sold in places like Deleware would have no tax on them at all(not all states have Sales Tax).

and what are they gonna call the packages
Vita - Min and Vita - Max?
