Nintendo's released the first hardware images for Wii U.
Wii U is of course the long-awaited new console from Nintendo that lives up to rumours of a new and innovative controller.
Nintendo's unveiling of the new controller consisted of a video showcasing its capabilities. It kicked off with a chap playing Mario on the big screen using the dual-sticked, HD screened controller, before switching the TV and carrying on playing the same game using the controller's screen alone.
The controller also has a number of applications of its own. Drawing and art based software looked particularly impressive and electronic versions of board games also feature.
There were also big AAA announcements for the new machine such as Darksiders II, Batman Arkham City, Tekken and Battlefield 3.

In black would be fantastic and i think that will definately happen, they always do for all their systems but basically yes i want it, im going to get it.
They will also need to introduce trophies / achievements as well if they are to totally bring this new console inline with other companies machines, my money is still on coins.... Bronze, silver, gold and finally for platinum a mario coin!
2012 is going to be an expensive year, time to sell my spare organs...... You only need one lung and one kidney right????

I'm not convinced about the new controller at the moment - it seems a little unwieldy for the most part. The concept however does appeal, though it'll be up to devs to actually prove it works. I get strong VMU vibes and the streaming games onto it from the console is a page straight of Sony's book. A pity the PSP never made better use out of that ability, maybe it's something the NGP will capitalise upon. The price of it remains to be seen, and I can't see it being cheap. The console is supposedly backwards compatible with the rest of the Wii controllers so it might not be essential for the console.
I'll reserve judgement about the console itself until more information about it is revealed. At the moment we still don't know what it is actually capable of. How many independent viewpoints can it stream simultaneously for instance? Does it scale depending on the game and what it's used for? And the most important of course, what's actually under that plastic cover? These are questions I'd be interested to see the answer to.

Because that's the main feature of the whole thing. The controller has the potential to be very useful and a great peripheral if its utilized properly by developers, so only time will tell whether its going to be just an expensive gimmick or not.
