E3 2011: Xbox Battlefield 3 'not ready' for E3

DICE being blunt about title's no-show on Microsoft format

See all of CVG's E3 2011 coverage

Battlefield 3 is not playable on Microsoft's Xbox 360 at E3, CVG understands.

Why? DICE is being very upfront, telling press that the SKU simply "isn't ready" and that it doesn't want to show the game "until it's the best that it can be".

It's rare for a triple-A title not to be playable on all three formats at the globe's biggest consumer show - or at least playable on a 360 pad on PC.

That said, Battlefiled 3 is very much one of the darlings on the E3 show floor. We saw gameplay running today and it looked very much like a contender for the game of the show. It was, after all, No.4 in your Most Anticipated games of the event, pulling in approximately double the votes of fierce rival Modern Warfare 3.

Battlefield 3 is due for release on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in October.

The PC is basically a limitless canvas. The console versiosn are much more restrictive and require a lot more fiddling with for framerate etc. They've made it clear they want this to look a step ahead on every platform. I respect that they'll show it when it meets their standards.

I think PC won E3 because of this game.

Uncharted 3 will be way better than this game tbh

 is that a joke because If it was you are real funny. If it was not a joke then well you are real stupid.

Bits of the footage ive seen says "PS3 Footage" at the bottom of the screen, so i'm quietly optimistic that it will look good on at least one console :)

I'm glad someone else noticed that on the Frostbite 2 trailer. I was starting to think I'd imagined it said "PS3 footage", and where it says "PS3 footage" it looks great.

Graphically, not a chance in hell. Uncharted 1 and 2 do not come close to the picture quality offered by what we've seen so far of BF3 on the PC. And bear in mind I own UC1 and 2, along with 2 high end HDTV's and a killer gaming PC.

In terms of gameplay... maybe... in SP. MP... I doubt it very, very much.

Why is he stupid? I'm sure Uncharted will look prettier, but whether it is a better game is a matter of opinion really. BF 3 does look incredible on PC though it must be said.

Personally I'd imagine console gamers will be pleasantly surprised , don't forget they're coding 'to the metal' now on consoles and games usually end up at a similar level to high end pc graphics. PC games have the heavy API layer and other limiting factors. PC gamers may run at higher res and higher fps and have a few unique DX11 features like tessellation etc. But the experience will probably be very similar.
