E3 2011: PlayStation Vita battery life to match PSP, Sony hopes - report

But not for graphically intense titles like Uncharted

Sony is hoping that the PlayStation Vita battery life will be close to that of the PSP.

That's the general target for the platform holder, reports suggest, but the company's naturally a little more pessimistic when it comes to graphically intense titles like Uncharted.

Engadget reports: "[Sony's] not talking battery life, but a developer told us that - with the exception of graphically intensive titles like Uncharted - the company's shooting for parity with the original PlayStation Portable."

Our E3 agent has already had a fiddle with the PlayStation Vita and it's safe to say he's impressed. See for yourself in our PlayStation Vita hands-on video.

Anyone know if it will link up to your PS3 trophy profile? This would go some way to me even considering getting one.

    Sad, but true. :)

So in other words it will be less than the 3DS .. probably ...

Hmm ... bending the truth again Sony ..

Sony: 'The battery life of the PSV will be better than the 3DS as long as its just sitting on the XMB'

I would have thought that would have been pretty obvious to most people with a brain.

On the subject of trophies from what I've heard it will be the same account, linking all of your PS3 and PSV trophies together.

It's about time someone developing a handheld developed a new f**king power source so they don't have s**tty life times :x

    I vote for wind power.

I generate enough wind everyday to power a small flat. Ohhhh yeaaaa....

Edit: I doubt I will be too fond of the possible routes from me to handheld though.

You want to invent a fission battery? Go ahead, be my guest.

We can't build a battery with a higher capacity because it would defy either the Pauli Exclusion Principle or the Wallet Exclusion Principle. Or weigh a metric f**k-tonne*.

*You have no idea how long I've been waiting to use that.

Haha, nice1 jim that made me chuckle.

Fart power aside, I do feel we need some major advancements when it comes small mobile size batteries. A couple of hours of play time is really pushing it for a mobile device, it just isn't enough.

Oh for f**k's sake i'll do it. Wait here

3DS has plenty of battery life, so will PSP vita I'm sure. Granted no games are pushing the 3ds yet either.

The fact is kiddies - idevices can only last an hour max if playing a 3D game - so why complain? You want more power - you have to sacrifice battery life - FACT.

I want a small solar panel attachment, like my 20 year old calculator. :)
Seriously though, i'm not too worried with the Vita's battery life. Can't be any worse than the 3DS. That one is proven to be crap. The Vita battery life is still up in the air, so until proven otherwise, i'm not too fussed about it. That 3DS has a powerhungry screen that doesn't scale. The Vita has OLED that does and is very power efficient.
