Amazon has started taking pre-orders for PlayStation Vita, listing UK prices of £229.99 for the Wi-Fi version and £279.99 for the 3G one.

They're the same prices UK retailer GAME went with earlier this week..

Sony has so far only confirmed US ($249), European (€249) and Japanese (YEN 24,900) price points for the lower-spec model, whilst the 3G-enabled premium SKU will retail for $299/€299.

The platform holder told CVG that an official announcement of the PlayStation Vita UK price will be made "later in the year", but a source close to the company confidently informed us that there's a UK RRP of "somewhere close to £235" for the Wi-Fi SKU.

Our man on the ground at E3 went hands-on with the PS Vita and it's safe to say he was impressed. See for yourself in our PlayStation Vita hands-on video.

So the exact same price the £DS was at the 1st round of pre-orders...

So going of that once other stores start undercutting it will reach £200 by release :D

Yeah we can only hope that happens in the UK. The 3DS and DS were alot more popular than the PSP. I think the supermarkets will be the first to cut the price.

That's actually pretty good for what you're getting (hopefully the price will drop a few times pre-release too).

Precisely what would the benefits of the 3G version be over the wi-fi one? I don't know much on the subject of 3G.

I''d say that is reasonable, given the tech inside.

3G would allow you to access online almost everywhere using a mobile signal, while wi-fi needs a wireless Internet connection.

Gaming is turning into a money nightmare. £219 for a 3DS, around £250 for a PSP2, £299+ for a Wii U (I'd say close to £399), Xbox 720 and PS4 will come with a hefty pricetag, and Apple are going to join the console war soon. And I forgot to mention a handheld from Microsoft....

Presumably that means you'd have to pay a monthy contract then?.

Not too shabby. I wish they'd stuck with NGP though. That sounded like a piece of military hardware. Vita sounds like mineral water :/

Cheaper than I thought and there's a big possibility of a price-war before it's released. I'll probably stick with the wi-fi model though, can't say I've missed 3G on my iPad.

if you have a mifi dongle you dont need the 3g version - its a mobile wifi device you dont plug in - acts as a wifi router would ... available on 3 and Tmobile I think, bonus is you can connect your other wifi enabled devices too it. On saying that, lots of phones support tethering anyway these days

regarding the 3g version, you can buy sim cards for the THREE network that come with 3gigs of data valid for 3 months for about £8 to £9 on amazon.
Also you could always buy the wifi version and spend the money saved on a mifi dongle. To those who aren't aware thats a portable dongle you can put in your pocket that allows its 3g signal to be shared over wifi.
Allot of phones also offer this function too so you see the 3g version is already a tad crap, especially if comes network locked!

Also anyone with an Android phone can tether it too save money, I know that what I'm doing.

the Apple iCONsole is going to be about a grand, it will also only have one button thats used to turn it on, it won't feature a off button though & at a pre-determined date set by Stevie Jobs, it will become self-aware !

One of the best things about the Vita is this price, I'll be getting the WiFi only model as round my way 3G isn't exactly good! Also I have an iPhone for browsing out and about and i hardly ever do that.
Still think this is an awesome bit of kit :D and with the potential of a 3DS like pricing war hell yes!!!

Great price. Don't see the point in a 3G model though, 3G is s**t plus harly anywhere has it apart from in the middle of towns. Tethering from my iphone for free and save £50 :D

I dont see the point in the 3G model, you might aswell create a wifi hotspot from the smartphone in your pocket and connect your PSV over your existing contract.
