The Nintendo Wii U will support a wealth of online features, including match scheduling via its touch screen controller.
Ghost Recon Online developers gifted ONM the first tiny details on the new console's online offerings, including news that the console will constantly track your online progression with its shooter.

You'll even be able to schedule matches with friends while you're watching something on the TV, Ubisoft said.
Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime has already said that Wii U has Xbox Live and PSN level online capabilities.
Have a look at our hands on videos with the Wii U controller if you haven't already.

That sounds like a seperate system , rather than an integrated online system to me.
So in other words seperate friends codes, list etc for each game ... ala wii, ds.
Hopefully I am just reading it wrong.

If it's anything like the Wii online service then they should call them under achievements.

interesting.
would like to see if they build upon trophies, like trophies built upon achievements.

Achievments > Trophies.
I hate syncing Trophies everytime I unlock new ones...
Plus I like Points based rather than "Levels", Points are easy to understand....

Not sure why there is so much negativity towards Nintendo.
Everyone slated the Wii for not having a decent online (where you could track friends and earn achievements to a personal account/gamertag) because it wasn't HD or had nice enough graphics and because it didn't have a 'standard' controller. Nintendo address ALL these issues in their new console but the haters keep on hating, I don't get it?
Is everyone really so blinkered, narrow minded and brand loyal that they have to continually put Nintendo down? It is rather pathetic that some of these immature morons will continue to dismiss a Nintendo console no matter how good the machine is or how many 'core' games it offers (Ninja Gaiden 3, Assassins Creed, Tekken, DIRT, Batman AC, CoD, FIFA, Need for Speed etc) they will always view Nintendo as an 'uncool' brand to own.
Some 360/PS3 'fanboys' seem to really hate the success Nintendo had with the Wii, continually ignoring it and calling it a 'epic fail' a 'gimmick', their elitist view is that only 'core gamers' should play games and not young or old people. All games should be like CoD and all other generic FPS, Gears Of War, GTA, FIFA, Need For Speed etc. That's an idiotic viewpoint to have isn't it? in your world maybe only a select 'core' should get to watch films and they will all be movies like SAW, Fast & Furious, Lord Of The Rings etc. You probably don't watch PIXAR films either or The Simpsons/Family Guy because it "looks to childish/cartoony" You muppets. RANT OVER!

of course trophies are better.
with the platinum you have something to show for your troubles.
and getting a rare gold trophy for something big like say, the 'for colin' trophy in dirt 2 is a lot better than '100 gamerpoints' popping up.
and of course there is the leveling system of trophies. instead of just an accumulative score.
trophies are an evolution of achievements. everyone knows this.
oh, and the crisp sound a trophy makes is much better than that bloop noise of achievements.

Will the Wii-U have decent online? We'll fine out. And it still doesn't have a 'standard' controller. I wouldn't call the Wii-U controller standard. Gimmick is the word I'll use until I see otherwise.
As for you moaning at the 'elitist' view of 360/PS3 fanboys, your view seems just as elitist by judging them. Of course the viewpoint you set out is idiotic, that's why most core games don't adhere to such a view. Games like Viva Pinata, Banjo Kazooie, the LEGO game series, ModNation and (most importantly) LittleBigPlanet show that not all games for the console are shooters. Similarly we have had some none-generic FPS titles that actually seem a bit different, some huge RPG games not possible on the Wii and games like Guitar Hero (and Rockford), SingStar and Buzz for party games.
Nintendo fans prefer their Mario and Zelda, fine. PS3/360 fans prefer different games. Just as it is wrong to assume Nintendo make kiddie consoles, your complete generalisation is just as wrong. The Wii has its advantages, the PS3/360 has it's advantages. It's up to the individual to weigh these advantages up. Me for example - I much prefer graphics, a standard controller and decent online to motion controls and Nintendo First Party. You may prefer motion controls and 1st Party Nintendo. But you are moaning at core gamers generalising and are doing the exact same.

Sounds like Wii U will have similar on like online abilities like trophies! Great! I've a PS3, I was thinking getting a XBOX 360, I won't now.
Games for Windows has achievements, Steam has achievements and even Apple's Game Center has achievements
Good move Nintendo, you have me on board!

But the Wii U does have a standard controller, it has two analogs, a d-pad, 4 shoulder buttons, 4 face buttons, start, select and home.... how is this not standard in your eyes? because of the screen in the middle? You can also use a Classic Controller Pro on it which again offers all the features of a 'standard' pad. Is it to difficult a concept to accept that, if done well (ie a strong online network to compete with Xbox LIVE/PSN) the 'Wii U' might be able to offer both of these things to both sets of gamers?
I own a 360 myself, I am not being elitist and judging them and I am not saying ALL 360/PS3 owners - I am simply stating that some fanboys can be very narrow minded to the point of being ignorant. I am fully aware of the great titles you mentioned, and as a 360 owner I also know that Viva Pinata and Banjo both under achieved massively on 360 due to them 'looking childish'.

1. Yes, it is possible that the Wii-U controller could be classed as a standard controller. However, controllers like that mean (like with the Wii), developers will put some s**te motion controls in their games because they can. If a game has motion controls that add to the gameplay, great - it can happen. But too often on the Wii the motion controls have felt out of place and I see no reason why this would stop.
2. The Wii-U won't be competing with the PS3/360. It's just going to have a headstart on the next Xbox and Playstation consoles. Achievements and a decent online is the Wii playing catch-up. Decent online is long overdue and I bloody well hope they get it right.
I just don't see how the Wii-U can offer the best of both worlds. no console can. Emphasis on the casuals p**ses of the hardcore. Emphasis on the hardcore alienates the casuals. Motion controls will rarely be used effectively by third parties because they will fail to crap the best control method (as with the Wii). Most third party games will probably have tacked on motion controls (like with the Wii) instead of having a gaming built around motion controls. Build a game around motion controls and the game will be better. Chances are I still won't be a fan but it will be more of a "It's not my thing" kind of game instead of "Looks s**t".
But in reality who can blame the developers for tacking on motion controls? After all, in the next generation of consoles, people will need a reason to buy a game on the Wii-U when they can buy it on a different console, and motion controls will obviously be that reason.
Maybe Nintendo will surprise me. Or, less likely, maybe third party developers will surprise me. I hope they do because I do like some Nintendo games that I wouldn't like to miss out on. If I remain pessimistic, I'll be even happier if it end up being my type of thing.

I'm going with "U Did It!"
It sounds just like the sort of thing they might do, and if Nintendo want to use it they can pay me... my rates are generous.

Althout the presentation of trophies is surely better. Especially the inclusion of the Platinum trophy, one quick scan to see if they have all the trophies for all the games they own.
For Nintendo i think the achievement system should be in stars. Bronze, Silver and Gold stars. With the Grand Star being the equivalent of the platinum trophy. Grand Stars earning you points for your club nintendo account would be awesome.

the problem with your rant is that your mentioning a ton of ps360 games which wii simply has nothing to compete with so anyone who hates wii and read your rant most likely wont have changed their mind.

Nintendo, in my eye, have gone to the darkside.
After all that talk of NO ACHIEVEMENTS on any console anytime at all, ONM Article, this feels like treason.
If they implement it the right way though, maybe I can forgive that.

Vapid fanboy rubbish. The number of features Microsoft 'borrowed' from Sony to get the Xbox off the ground is innumerable. Steve Jobs and Thomas Edison never invented a single thing in their lives. Companies take existing things and enhance them, it's called 'progress' and it's nothing new.
But hey, don't let history and common sense get in the way of your puerile mindset.
