Since its announcement in May, Namco Bandai has confirmed two new characters for Soul Calibur 5.

However, speaking to CVG at E3, the developer has revealed that over half of the new game's cast, which it anticipates will be between 20 and 30 characters, will be fighters fans have never seen before.

"We're anticipating somewhere between 20 and 30 characters, of which about half of them will be entirely new characters and half will be returning" said the Namco Bandai rep.

Along with new characters Pyrrha and Patroklos, the developer has also released a few screenshots showing aged versions of Mitsurugi and Seigfried.

The developer went on to say that the fighter is "only 15% complete" and that it has plenty more to add to the game.

The first Soul Calibur V gameplay trailer was released just before the start of E3.

As long as Mitsurugi and Yoshimitsu are in, then I'm happy!

Hmm... I'll be a bit miffed if all the characters from the other Caliburs don't make it in some form. Minus Yoda, Vader and the bloody Apprentice.

Always been a fan of the series, but this has really failed to impress me so far, Mitsurugi and Nunchuk guy FTW

Would love to see Hwang return. Loved him in SC1 on the dreamcast. Used to kick alot of butt with him. But I am guessing they will use his sub char again from SC3 or something (assassin or whatever)

Sadly, they've already confirmed that Hwang won't be making a return. Daishi Odashima was answering questions on Twitter and he said that they wouldn't be reintroducing Hwang... :(

Got to say the graphics aren't really up to much yet. Lets hope thats because its only 15% done. Needs a lot of polish.

I see this as "half the cast is returning, and most of the other half will have kids/apprentices", so, going by that philosophy I predict characters that'll age well (Mitsurugi for example) to return, characters that can't age at all (Cervantis, Astarophe, ect) and characters that have somehow conquered the cycle of life (Zasalamel, Nightmare, ect) to return, with characters that'll age getting axed (Talim, possibly Hilde, Taki, Mi-na, Cassandra, Sohpitia, oh gee, most of them are female, why doesn't that surprise me?) Oh, and Algol will almost certainly be out.

The big question is, where would Setsuka fit? She could fit the apprentice theme, the "age well and'll return" theme, or just not return in any form.

Since Seigfried is returning, im pretty sure Nightmare will as well. And for Mitsurugi, i have no doubt that Taki should make her appearance for their rivalry and believed twin relations. Also, since kids/apprentices are being announced, Pyrrha and Patroklos must be replacing thier mother, Sophitia, and aunt, Cassandra. As for Cervantez and Ivy, seeing there is a fighting area with pirate ships, the domestic conflict between the two could continue. So my guess is returning characters, so far, will be Seigfried, Mitsurugi, Nightmare, Taki, Cervantez, and Ivy. Others could possibly be Kilik, Xianghua, and Maxi on account of their adventures since "Soulcalibur" and they are still pretty young. The new arena that appears to be a torture room could prove Voldo's return, or perhaps a new assassin(Not Tira). This addition to the Soul series might be a not only a new chapter, but a way on passing on the torch to a new generation to continue the quest for the swords. So old lineup may in fact be replaced entirely by future characters to the series.
