Gears Of War 3 will offer gamers the "longest and thickest" campaign in Epic's history, according to the studio.
Speaking to CVG in Los Angeles today, design boss Cliff Bleszinski told us that the length of the title's single-player would comfortably top ten hours - and suggested it would be closer to 12, by saying the game would have "at least a few hours" more gameplay than its predessesors.

"Gears 1 and 2 were roughly about eight or nine hours for the average person, it's at least a few hours more than that. It's thick - and it's not just copy and paste level design. There's all this unique combat, all these story elements; there's a lot of stuff going on. It's quite a journey."
The firm has given the game's multiplayer a full overhaul, including the new Horde 2.0 mode. We saw it today and it's looking intense - not least when waves of bosses begin charging towards you - whilst the promise of dedicated servers will be sweet music to long-term fans. The title is due out in September on Xbox 360.

This will be my personal game of the year, possibly this generation.
Wish I could hibernate for the next 2 months and wake up on release day.
Don't know if anyone else gets the feeling when a big release is coming up, but nothing I play at the moment is really doing anything for me. Need Gears!!

Looking forward to the campaign on GoW3. Me and my boys have been playing through the campaign on GoW2, via system link, recently and have enjoyed it. Never completed the campaign when it first came out, as I spent most of my time playing hoarde with a few mates from work.
I'll wait and see though if the campaign is more than 10 hours. Seems quite a bold statement, given the shortcomings of most games in the single player market in recent years. GoW2 was about 7 hours. So if they can get the story to 10-12 hours for the 3rd, I will be quite happy.

Thats Great news. Just make sure every hero, sorry "Brother", dies by "THEEND". I think this should be the last Gears EVER! Lets face it the story is just god awful and hey I LOVE Gears, but the story is just poor, less rock music more classical music also....stop cheapening everything.....we're not all....how do you say....'Steroid popping Jocks', ahem. Epic by name but lets face it.....Kick Ass by Nature. Cliffy B......You are NOT.....I Repeat NOT Cool.....you are simply very, very rich and successful.....please hire some more creative intellectuals ASAP.
PS: Epic Can You Please Make Unreal 3 (PC/ 360 Exclusive, of course!) with a campaign of over 15 hours for me Asap, cheers, try not to overdose on redbull in the meantime.....

I thought the previous game campaigns were 10+ hours anyways?

Depends on the diffuclty, on 'casual' I reckon you could do the 1st one in 8 and the 2nd in 6 if you beasted through. On Insane however it took me over 10 hours to do Gears 2, can't remember how long for 1 but I did that in co-op. You highlight a good point though because as it now seems the norm for developers to qoute the lenght of campaigns they should also clarify on what difficulty, Bulletstorm for example goes from relatively easy on the first 2 difficulty settings to near impossible on the hardest.
