E3 2011: E3 attendance rises, 2012 show dated

46,800 people attended E3 2011, according to organiser the Entertainment Software Association, which has also dated next year's show.

The attendance figure is up slightly on 2010's 45,600, but much lower than the 2005's 70,000, Gamasutra reports.

Over 200 exhibitors brought their products to this year's E3, which also hosted more than 120 retailers from 18 countries participated.

E3 2012 will again take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center next year, from June 5-7.

ESA CEO Michael D. Gallagher said: "This year's E3 propelled video games to the pinnacle of the entertainment world. The industry's innovation, creativity, and excitement combined to show the world the ultimate entertainment experience."

"The positive news generated by the event reached all parts of the world, and we are looking forward to building on this great momentum in 2012."
