BioWare co-founder Ray Muzyka has said the future's bright for its major franchises Mass Effect and Dragon Age, as well as new IPs.
Speaking to our E3 agents, Muzyka was asked if the studio is considering creating a Mass Effect spin-off MMO. He replied by saying the studio's committed to Star Wars: The Old Republic, before giving an optimistic outlook of the studio's current and future portfolio.
See his response for yourself in the video below.
Muzyka also told CVG he believes Mass Effect 3's delay to 2012 will pay off for fans of the series.

After they butchered the Dragon Age franchise with DA2, I find myself increasingly looking to studios like CD Projekt rather than the big old studios for interesting stuff.

"We're on the verge of a galactic war"
Did anyone else take that to mean, keep your eyes peeled for a mass effect sci-fi fps with online multiplayer?

I'm all for more Dragon Age as I believe that they'll be able to improve with the next one, and when they do I'll forgive them for Dragon Age 2!
I'm not too sure about more Mass Effect though; it's one of my favourite series ever and my anticipation for ME3 is immense, but it's always best to leave your audience wishing there was more than outstaying your welcome. I want ME3 to have closure for all involved, with an ending where they can do whatever they want without the pressure of having to try and avoid massive events that may have to be ret-conned in case of a continuation. The only option left after that is an all-new cast, but that's very risky business as people who have grown attached to one cast tend to be pretty unwelcoming of a new one, and it's hard (if not impossible) to make one that will please all.
In addition, I think the Bioware RPG formula - fully customisable character in terms of both appearance and personality, epic storyline that's always great even though it can go down various paths and cast of characters that you get attached to so that within the epic-scale plot also lies a mini soap-opera - has potential for countless other setups completely unrelated to outer space or medieval fantasy settings. What about a CIA drama or a modern war game with the Mass Effect template? There's loads of life left in it which I hope they explore eventually, but it won't happen any time soon if their time is being taken up by making more new Mass Effect games.

I think the Mass Effect universe is so rich that they could continue to milk it for a while yet without it becoming stale - leave Shepard's story after ME3, and then start a new sub-series within the same world. The mechanics could be changed, but I think the setting has plenty more to offer - Earth, and humans for that matter, wouldn't need to appear at all and it wouldn't necessarily have to tie directly to the ME story as we've known it.
