Following on from the best selling games of 2009 and 2010 is no easy task, but Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia thinks Modern Warfare 3's likely to exceed the 20 million or so copies last year's Call of Duty: Black Ops managed.
"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (releasing 11/8/11) looks very impressive and we expect the title to sell at least in line with but probably grow versus last year's title, which sold an estimated 20M units," Bhatia said in a research note (via IndustryGamers).
He also thinks Modern Warfare 3 rival Battlefield 3 will be a big hit with consumers, although not on the same level as the Call of Duty game.
"Battlefield 3 (releasing 10/25/11) is getting strong reviews and we think has the potential to sell 8M to 10M units this year," the analyst added.
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said this month that the company's already seeing unprecedented demand for Modern Warfare 3.
