An iOS developer has discovered a new feature in the recently-announced iOS 5 operating system from Apple that can make Apple TV function almost like a games console.

Anyway, as a developer shows in the video below, all this babble means that you can beam the video from games on your iPad 2 that support TV-out directly to your TV and use your iPhone or iPad as controller. Sort of like a games console... geddit?

Does iOS5 make the ipad grow buttons?

No but it make grown men go out and spend silly money on something they will never use.

Apple will join the party for real sooner or later!
They still lack a proper controller as mentioned for now.

Steve Jobs has called games frivolous time-wasters in the past, so I doubt the Apple games console will ever happen.

Yeah, I think I remember that. Wasn't that in the same interview in which he mentioned that he's not interested in makin' a crapload of money because he doesn't know where to put all the bags anymore?

As a gamer, whoopie fudging do.
So for all those people who whine that consoles cost too much (although they're still cheaper than previous generations in real terms), for this you only spend even more on an iPad and yet more for Apple TV, but does it not count because Apple is the new black or is that chartreuse?
I can see the yuppie boardrooms being kitted out in these things though so the champagne quoffing toffs can wank over their latest investment figures.

wow check out that video, my Amstrad had graphics like that 25 years ago. So for about £400 I can play angy birds on my TV where do I sign

Yeah but that has buttons and control sticks, an actually game playing device. As much as I like my HTC Desire I will never consider it to be a gaming device until it has a proper pad and buttons that aren't part of the touchscreen. Thats why the Xperia Play is the first phone to be classed as a gaming phone.

I've always wanted to stream games with lousy graphics, shoddy design and no depth to my TV screen, just to see how crap they look in 1080p.

Hmm, we all saw Real Racing 2 doing this during WWDC/E3 week, so is the actual story here "ignorant developer stumbles on feature covered in great detail by Eurogamer a week ago"?
CVG are really starting to push the boat out with these preposterous headlines to get folks interested in a late story and that makes me a sad panda *sad*

ive been able to do that on my archos 5 for a year now. Apple: take outdated technology and act like they invented it
plightstar on 15 Jun '11 said:
Kind of. But that was a huge embarrassment for gaming and phones alike.

Agreed. I can't see how playing already crap and poorly controlling games would seem any better on the big screen - would make you want to go and use a proper gaming device instead.
