BioWare on Mass Effect MMO, new projects

Old Republic will be supported for "years" after launch

BioWare has revealed that it has a host of new announcements up its sleeve for the coming months - as it wryly responds to a CVG enquiry about a possible Mass Effect MMO.

As you can see in the below video, CVG asked BioWare boss Dr. Ray Muzyka when we could expect a new MMO entry in the studio's flagship series. He replied: "Some of the ideas you mention are definitely possibilities."

However, Muzyka clarified that Star Wars: The Old Republic was to be the EA-owned company's focus in the MMO space for now, and that the game would be supported "for years" after launch.

Muzyka also teased new projects - and further played with our intrigue by hinting that BioWare had a "bright future" planned for both Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

"We have some really cool stuff going on with our Virginia studio out of BioWare Mythic," he said, "[where] we're exploring new types of online play.

"We also have some new things in the pipe we haven't announced yet out of our Edmonton studio... We're obviously looking at Mass Effect, Dragon Age - they're epic franchises, and we have more things planned in the future. Mass Effect 3 is the beginning of a Galactic war. The future's bright."

Mass Effect 3 is due for release worldwide for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in March next year. Star Wars: The Old Republic will hit PC later this year.

So the plan is to sign off Sheppards storyline, and continue the mass effect universe.

AWESOME! :D I guess they've also confirmed the Galactic War will not end in ME3 too.

Well something must have created The Reapers, so I guess they could take it there. Hopefully we'll get a Jade Empire 2 announcement as well. :)

Jade empire 2 would be awesome, I always felt they didnt really finish the first game though, it kind of just got started and then BAM you were at the final boss and end, it was a shame, a second in the series could be very good though.

As for mass effect MMO, I guess it could work, I'd rather bioware don't keep going down the MMO route after star wars though.

Pfff... they killed Dragon Age with the steaming pile that was DA2, so maybe it will get a reboot as a zombie shooter/platform jumper?

It better be the bloody end of it too. It's supposed to be a trilogy. Presumably this means it's going to be a trilogy in at least 5 parts like Assassin's Creed. I don't mind a new story being started after ME3, but I want ME3 to have a proper ending, not some bulls**t "To be continued in next year's sequel" money grab.

I'd love them to make a sequel to Jade Empire, i really liked that game but i'm dreaming of BioWare to announce that their Old Republic MMO is coming to the PS3 and is playable with the PC crowd. I think it could be done. :)

The old republic could end up on consoles. I doubt a ps3 console exclusive though. Bioware and Microsoft have always had a connection, also Lucasarts have a good conection but then there is the fact ms want things running on their servers. I think if announced it will come to xbox and ps3 most likely.
