Following an E3 interview and a press release, Nintendo has now used Robin Williams' daughter (and the fact her name is Zelda) to drive four pieces of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D promotion. Four.
First, the company released an interview showing Zelda Williams playing the excellent Ocarina of Time 3DS in L.A, talking about her love for games (as well as her father's) and how he came to name her after the famous Nintendo princess. Kind of sweet.
It then followed up with a 400 word press release detailing a baby naming process. "That's a bit over the top," we thought, before getting on with our lives.
Today, Nintendo has unleashed the below advert, which leaves nothing to subtlety.
"I saved your kingdom," reminisces Robin to his daughter.
"Dad," she interrupts. "Are you mixing me up with the princess again?"
Oh you have to laugh. The poor old man's gone funny. He thinks his daughter is a pink-clad damsel in distress and it's not the first time. Isn't it just adorable?
Don't get too distracted though. Don't forget that Zelda Williams is named after Princess Zelda from the Legend of Zelda. DON'T FORGET WILL YOU?
Better put it in brackets just in case.
And yet still uncertain that the whole world was aware of the ins and outs of how the daughter of a famous man could be named after a video games character, Nintendo's pushed harder.
The platform holder paid a visit the Williams household to really get to grips with the tale. You know, break it down, get to the crux of the matter. A 'behind the scenes' of the naming process. Like a DVD extra.
Robin probably opened the door and gave the answer "I liked Legend of Zelda, so I called her Zelda."
Sorry Mr. Williams, we're going to need a five minute account before we can even begin to fathom how something as magical as this came to be.
Don't get us wrong, we love Robin Williams, with his bashful smile, his gentle voice and now the greatest beard on the planet. (It really is a great beard.)
And, we've come to realise that we (respectfully) love his daughter, Zelda Williams, who sports a top notch face. She featured in People Magazine's 100 Most Beautiful award in 2007, after all.
But do we really need all of this tenuous material to sell a stellar remake of what's already widely regarded as one of the best games of all time? Come talk to us - we don't mind telling you that Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D will sell itself.
The silliest bit though? After a day of Nintendo slapping us in the face with Zelda Williams' moniker and shouting "IT'S LIKE IN OUR GAME!" the cracks begin to appear... with a single, albeit slightly dated, quote from the woman herself:
"In an ideal world I'd bring my Xbox 360, steal someone's Wi-Fi and play Halo 3," she told Switched in 2008 about how she uses her downtime on set.
Much respect to you Ms. Williams. Nintendo, leave it be now.
P.S. If you are interested in Zelda Williams' acting career, she has starred in a handful of films including 'The Frankenstein Brothers' (2010), where she apparently has lots of sex.
Of course we have the trailer.
