UK retailer ShopTo is listing PS Vita games for release on November 4, with individual titles carrying an RRP of £39.99.

The site points out that full price 3DS software typically retails for between £34.99 and £39.99.
Sony said it has "not made any announcements about software pricing, so that's just speculation".
While a worldwide 2011 PS Vita launch was implied by Sony at its E3 press conference, US PlayStation boss Jack Tretton cast doubt on the possibility in an interview with Reuters earlier this month. The executive reportedly said Vita would go on sale in Japan by the end of the year, while launches in some territories could yet be pushed to 2012.

30 quid max. 40 is too much for Hand held games.

Mmmm,I heard a November 2011 release for Japan and North America, and a Feb/Mar 2012 for the UK.That's quite a while to wait for us.They'll prob do a worldwide launch in early 2012.Also is anyone else sick of everything being hyped about a year before the damn thing's out? Not just the PSP Ryvita, but games too.Does anyone know if I can use my PSP memory cards on this new lad? I know that PSP downloaded games are compatible, but what about ones I have on my PSP memory card? I have saves on there too.I've done a lot on FF7,etc and was wondering if I could use my memory card with the PSP Vita,as my PSP died last week and I don't really want to buy another,if I can wait for the Vita.Things seem a bit hazy on the memory card front.Someone said there'd be a multi card slot on it,someone else said it would be a new Sony format memory card.Anyone know any more solid details?

It doesn't say that in the article ...
I am sure some will be discounted to a point, but usually Shopto are the ones that lead the way these days with aggresive pricing. If they are setting the retail proce to £40 then the bare miminum they will go down to is £35 I would have thought.
This is the issue that handhelds from now on are going to struggle with, dev costs are on the rise because the hardware is getting more complicated.
I really dont see the point in getting any of the currently announced PSV title, which are nearly identical to their PS3 counterpart, for £35 to £40. £30 I could live with, which is the going rate for most of the 3DS titles so far.

Im not really surprised though, due to Sony“s inability to price digital products well.
I only buy off the store when they get to offer!

It also says 3DS games RRP is £40-£35 & they were also £30-£25 on release. I haven't seen a proper game retailer selling games at their RRP since this gen started.

Seems that most of you are living in the clouds. I can see PSP Vita games costing up to £39.99 defo, more so when 3DS games cost that. No handheld game is worth more than £19.99, in fact, no game is worth more than £19.99. And when you look at what games are out on the 3DS (average to cack), most of them are not even worth £19.99. Gaming is far from expensive if you hold on for the classic price drop, swap and buy used games. The 3DS and PSP Vita are going to be swamped with remakes with added extras, but that still doesn't justify up to £39.99 for games.

My most played game at the moment is a free iphone game, my second most played is a 59p iphone game. Ive pre-ordered a ps vita but they will have to give me a lot of reasons to shell out £40 for a game, handheld titles imo should be no more than £30-£35

Not sure to believe this in terms of the launch games listed as 1. Monster Hunter hasn't even been mentioned as a title on the system.(though it is likely) 2. Bioshock has barely started development so that won't be a launch title.
Prices sound about right though but as always you can find them £5 to £10 cheaper if you shop around.
I'll get me one of these if & when they announce a Monster Hunter for it.

They actually arent identical, exvept for modnation racers. They are all in the same franchise. I know of only one new ip that i'm very interested in, and i guess thats one more than 3ds. Why did people buy ssf4? Or oot?
Who knows, but i think nintendo is in more trouble than sony. The reason nintendo have talked about apps devaluing games because their games havent risen in quality much. As the quality of indie games and apps go up, the quality and length of retail games have to go up. The same way youtube videos have lower production values than movies. So its going to be very hard for nintendo to sell games like mario kart, whenvon the retail side modnation is better, and on the app side you can find racers that bring just as much, or even more enjoyment. We need handheld games that are near ps3/360 level of depth and quality because otherwise we will have games that dont match up to the value of apps.

Average to Cack ... ?? A man that obviously speaks from experience of all the 3DS releases so far. In fact the majority of games released so far have been of high quality (Zelda even more so)
originalbadboy on 21 Jun '11 said:
Because they are good games I would imagine. This isnt about whether the games are carbon copies or not of the their console cousins ... Thats not the issue, the issue is that I would rather not pay £40 for a console game and then another £40 for the handheld counterpart.
I'm not sure the above paragraph even makes that much sense in all honesty ... Throwing more money at games doesn't always make them better, and I see just as much 'quality' in the top Nintendo games as any other game on the market. Give me Super Mario Galaxy over COD any day of the week.
No .... When the 3DS first came out the majority of launch games were £30 - £35 .. Yeah ok now the price seems to have settled down to £30 .. But even so most preorders for things like Mario Kart are still £35. That's pretty hefty for a handheld game. Regarding games selling at their RRP this gen that may well be true that 99% they sell under their RRP, that doesn't stop Game trying to sell new games for £40, when shopto are selling the same game at launch for £30. Although Game have been getting a bit more competitive on price lately.
Also the point that I was trying to get across is that if Shopto already have their PSV games up for £40, which is probably going to be cheaper than most, then what are the other retailers going to charge? £45 ... £50 ... ?? We don't know at the moment , but it wouldnt suprise me if PSV games are the same price as console games when they come out.

This is no shock. The price for the games and hardware is always expensive when it's something new. Also websites and other retailers will no doubt sell them cheaper.
Fr33Kye on 21 Jun '11 said:
I didnt mean throwing money nor did i say marip galaxy wasnt a quality title. Galaxy is quality on every front but when it comes to handheld mario bros and kart racing, they will have trouble competing. I'm not talking about throwing money at a project i'm talking about the quality, attention to detail and depth of gameplay. Nintendo cannot afford to make shallow games throw the names of there big ip's on. It isnt a matter of whether the game is good or not its a matter of value. Because the quality of 99c games is going up, the quality of retail games has to go up, then so will gamers standards. That's the way it is and nintendo is the company in the most trouble because of that. That is why they worry about app stores, that is why they dont like garage developers, because garage developers can produce similar content for a fraction of the price. Nintendo will have to advance as a developer, producing deeper and more meaningful titles. Other companies that use shovelware to support themselves will have to do the same.
I understand you not wanting to buy the same game twice, but apparently people are willing to do that for ocarina. And fans of uncharted would enjoy another story in the franchise, and i got wipeout for free and i would totally buy the new one. I want new ip's to, and even if i may have in the past no one should be criticized for loving a franchise enough to want a new game in the franchise. This isnt someone buying a game twice, its someone paying for a console game and if they choose, paying for another entry in the series. I still would pay for vanquish ona handheld...and folklore...and lp2..
We'll see how much games cost. I'll be getting one either way but i could have sworn that they said price would vary by the game. Which would be absolutely wonderful, can someone check to make sure i didnt imagine that? Also i wouldnt take all of this article seriously, but if it was true....20 launch games? Launching with bioshock? Too awesome, puts up a red flag to me.

No shps charge retail price anyway. Most 3DS games are RRP of £35/£40 yet most online retailers sell em for £25-£30 just like no online retailer sells 360/ps3 games for full £50 retail.
Besides I heard Vita won;t be getting as many retail games but a lot of PSN style games. (which hopefully will be around the £10 or less.)

I expect the games to be priced high, simply because they made such a big thing of the Vita being cheap - so much so that they'll lose profit on every sale so they'll have to recoup that someway.
It's the old Gilette "Give away the razor and sell the blades" strategy.
