The newly-promoted CEO of PlayStation worldwide, Andrew House, has given CVG his thoughts on why studios should bring content to PS3 - and why we'll be waiting a long time yet for its successor.

He replaces Kaz Hirai, who takes the role of global president. The changes will take effect on September 1.
Speaking to CVG earlier this month, House discussed why we're seeing traditional PC developers flocking to PlayStation - including Valve and Dust 514 beta studio CCP.
"The two things that I'm hearing [from PC devs] are that, one, as the size of the [Ps3] audience grows, clearly there's potential there in the console space to reach new users... and, secondly, I think it's a testament to the overall power of the device, and the fact that it's capable of delivering the same experience - or an even better experience - but on a big screen TV in a console environment."
On the future of PlayStation consoles, House told us that he "still characterised this as the early period" for PS3, and noted that Sony had "only really just begun to explore what the potential is for 3D".
Check out our video interviews below. Meet the new boss. A bit beardier than the old boss.

Same old PR, the technology has moved on since 2006, the same with 360, it's time for next gen.

This guy isn't living in reality.
The first part may be true, but why wouldn't any company want to see their product reach a larger audience? On the second point, he hasn't a clue what he is talking about. PC hardware today kills any console on the market even before its released due to development time.
The PC markets problem is that it rarely gets "exclusives" and they usually are not the sort that push the hardware. PC games are hindered as they are first developed for consoles and then ported to PC. They don't take advantage of the hardware or software that the PC has available. BF3 was supposedly designed around the PC market first and then ported over to console but we will have to wait until its actually released to judge that title.

Doesn't sound like words from a "Old Skool Gamer"!
No man, I'm still very happy with this gen of consoles. The only thing that is going to be updated with the next gen is the graphics department! And games like God of War 3 still look amazing imo, even when compared to PC games! Btw, technology moves on ever day. Do you buy a new smartphone every month?

Are they even making money on the PS3 hardware yet? I understand the dev cost for PS3 was like $1 billion, seems unlikely a new machine will be along anytime soon.

Yes, Sony do make a profit from each unit:

I don't know why people think selling consoles at a loss is unique to Sony, it's a common practise to sell hardware at a loss and regain the money from game licences and first party sales.

It's something that's been done for years, nothing new.

Good! Although history is littered with "no, no new console yetBAM here you are" lol
It's like I've been saying for a while, things are different this generation and the Wii U is going to step up to the 360 and PS3 and (calls it) extend it.
Both MS and Sony are still growing their PS3/360 businesses and alienating the current target audience would be the exact opposite of what they're trying to achieve at the moment and no, only gamers and tech-heads see the sense in having something released that's more powerful and having the old gen in tandem for who exactly? You? Just because the PS2 is the best example of that we have in gaming's memory doesn't mean it's always going to be this way.
MS and Sony are still adding features, as well.
We've still a fair way to go - Uncharted 3, Gears 3; Forza and The Last Guardian aren't the consoles topping out but it's devs getting more and what is to say they can take it even further?
That's not to mention the devs working on both platforms and what we're getting from them!

I never said it was exclusive to Sony but since the thread is about Sony it kinda follows to speak about Sony.

Yes, but no one even mentioned about profit/loss on hardware. So it looked very much like an uninformed attempt to bash Sony. I know by default this new makes me a Sony fanboy, but I hate it when people get things wrong.

Well, I'm sure if the next Wii sells as much as the first one, he may change his mind!

Not sure why, Wii hasn't even outside the PS1 or PS2.

yes, yes. very powerful... as long as it's only doing one task at a time. otherwise you will be watching that circle stop and start going around whilst yelling at the thing to hurry the fack up. Honestly? 256mb RAM? Really? Even four years ago that was a joke of an amount to use to run an OS purported to be future proven for the onfollowing ten years...
We are still waiting
