Battlefield 3 on PS3 'will be very similar to PC' - DICE

Executive producer Patrick Bach not worried about the console version

Ever since Battlefield 3 was shown off on PS3 there has been some spicy back and forth between DICE and a section of the FPS community.

Battlefield 3 Screenshot
We couldn't find much wrong with the game's console gameplay debut, but some genre followers elsewhere were a little disappointed with the showing compared to its stunning PC counterpart.

DICE has already come out to defend the Battlefield 3 PS3 gameplay, questioning why anyone would expect PC quality visuals from a console version.

And now executive producer Patrick Bach has said he isn't concerned about PC/PS3 comparisons, and that both versions will be relatively similar.

"Of course, there are practical limitations on the console versions with things like CPU, resolution, memory, bandwidth... things like that," he told PSM3.

"But I'm not worried about the output of PS3 compared to PC. It'll be very similar."

Activision has thrown the latest jab in the Battlefield/Call of Duty war of words by reminding everyone that Modern Warfare 3 will run at 60 fps on console compared to Battlefield 3's 30.

and no one will be able to tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps as every current game (other then a few racing games) on all the consoles run at 30fps. Activision just needs to stop. If you like one or the other game or even both .. no cares to hear trivial differences for bragging rights between the games. If you are a fan you will play it ...if not you wont ... the people have already decided.

I've been a MASSIVE fan of cod all the way from cod 2 but the way the map packs get thrown out every month (it seems that often) has put me off, i bought black ops and only bought the first map pack which wasn't great so i sold the game. I just hope that battlefield 3 is what I'm looking for and i hope it beats cod in sales (but it won't) I'm just sick of getting beat by 10 year old kids with grenade launchers, bring on battlefield 3 no matter how low the frame rate .... who cares about that really? Can't wait!

Am I the only one who is a little worried we are hearing nothing about the 360 version. With it not being ready to be shown at E3 and release date only 4 months away I think this could potentially be delayed for us 360 owners

If BF3 had been revealed on consoles first, then everyone would have been amazed, almost disbelieving that PC could be any better!

But because everyone saw the PC first, I reckon it was 'forgotten' that it was PC footage, and everyone expected it for their consoles only to be disappointed when shown it wasnt

On topic, I'm not worried for consoles either :D

They will be very similar, except for the higher resolution, higher FPS, bigger maps, more players and generally a better Game  .

This isnt a slight on the PS3 version, the 360 version will be equally inferior  .

 Thats all very good and well......but what about the xbox 360 version???
Why no footage of that and no comments either?......whats wrong with it!!
I own both PS3 and Xbox 360 but am buying on Xbox as the online is far superior (in my view) with regards voice comms and general use.............however i find the lack of information about that version disturbing!!!!!!
    Whats the crack???!!!!

With the exception of a few graphical tweaks, they're going to be the same game anyway. The only people who are going to say any different are PC elitists and butthurt fanboys. I'd rather still get to play a game with a little less power behind the graphics than not at all. Either way it's still going to be able to play the same on all platforms. It's not like some gameplay element is left out of one platform because it can't handle something.

Yes and no .. i mean the only reason we arent hearing about the 360 version is because its not as complete as the PS3 version yet ... im almost positive that Dice siad they started with the PS3 version due to the Memory issue being the biggest challenge with the console versions. No one has seen the 360 version yet so no one is talking about it. the PS3 version is being talked about cause of every one bitching( for some reason) about the graphical differences between it and the PC version on the jimmy falleon show

  10. TheLastDodo on 29 Jun '11 said:

100% agree with CrimsonFenix. The only difference will be graphical tweaks and a higher player count, and as a PS3 owner I can live without both and I'm certain 99% of PS3/360 owners feel exactly the same.

It don't get much simpler than this:

If you want Battlefield 3 to look like a PC game, buy the PC version, otherwise shut up moaning about things which are technically impossible to achieve on PS3/360.

And the only reason he was talking about the Ps3 version, and not the 360, is that he was talking to PS3M, so if he talks to a 360 mag next week, then i guess he will mention it then, nothing to worry about.

Indeed, it would have been a bit rude of him to speak about the game on a competing console.

So, today's 'word of the day' is.... Context. :D

Man I've adopted Bad Company 2 late.. like last week, and it's awesome online. I'd also say that the controls are perfect for me at 30fps so bring on Battlefield 3.

One thing that did bug me slightly was DICE saying they could do 256 player but weren't going to because it's too chaotic. Personally I loved MAG so 256 player would have been awesome for me however I suspect it's bulls**t anyway.

    You're crazy.

But if that's your preference then fair enough. I'm the opposite, I just hate using a controller for FPS or shooters in general. Me thumbs are just not that great at aiming...

Your joking right? If you can't spot the difference between the to modes I would recomend an eye test. That's not an insult or any sort of put down, I actually recomend you get your eyes seen by a professional.

Well I guess there similar in the fact they are both called Battlefield 3  . I'm not going to go into full detail here because the ignorance about PC's and games are at an all time high judging by other articles. We all know about the map size differences and there being more players on the PC version right?

I love my consoles as much as I love my PC but I notice alot more differences than "just resolution".

Why no mention of the 360 version? Im assuming that the 360 and ps3 version will be comparable. Is this not an issue on the 360 then or is it another excuse for fanboy baiting articles on CVG. How about this headline from the other day on CVG " dice defends ps3 battlefield footage" implying the game is poor on ps3 but not on any other platorm because they are not mentioned, and now this. I like this site because there is always lots of articles to read and its regulaly updated but im sick of every ps3 related article having a negative slant to it. CVG seem incapabl of complimenting the ps3 without countering with something negative aswell. maybe im just being paranoid but this is how i see things. I cant help but feel that if this game was shown off on consoles for the first time on 360 then there would not be a single mention of graphical quality. Im probably sounding like a fanboy but all i want is a decent games website where i can feel the love on the site for both consoles and gaming in general rather than the clearly miserable so and so's writing for CVG.

If they had shown console footage from the start, we wouldn't be having these arguments right now, and that's DICEs fault. Not being clear enough until showing console footage at E3. It looks very underwhelming the PS3 footage, presumably the same for 360 too, unless of course they're lead developing the game on PC and 360 then porting to PS3 as usual because all these developers are so f u c king lazy. Back to COD4 then.

First of all, that's why you can't make the console outcasts secondary DICE come on you know that...I know you come from a big PC fan base and this is your love song to woo them back to you but you should know better, PC community is important but the console versions always sell more...I'm just hoping it looks good on the 360

And now the CoD 60 fps does that include multiplayer or is that just singleplayer? And is it 1080p the whole way for both in MW3 as well? Cuz that 30 fps 720p is getting really outdated DICE...lagging behind your counterparts on console, I don't wanna hear excuses about too much vehicles and too much destruction this and that...make it work DICE I was going to boycott CoD in favor of BF3 this year but you've been disappointing me since E3 guys...

I will still end up getting both games, gotta step your game up though DICE if you want to beat the so called "best"

I'm not worried about it at all .. Chances are the 360 version is probably in better shape than the PS3 version given the underlying architecture, so the fact that they showed the PS3 version says to me ... 'Here's the PS3 version it looks this good, so I wouldnt worry about the 360 version .. its a given'.

I dont expect the 360 version to be anything close to the PC version either, anyone who does is smoking some serious s**t. Personally it doesn't bother me, I will be getting the 360 version whatever happens due to the online aspect of the game.

We will see the 360 version soon enough anyway so it matters not.

How are they lagging behind may I ask in not being able to provide 60fps@1080p

You don't care about how much is going on within the game make it work but how? Would love to see you try.

    BF3
Brand new NEXT GEN engine on 5-6 year old hardware, Complete destruction on the map.

MW3 reused engine with minor tweaks which is now 4 years old. scripted events with small amounts of destruction.

Your being very naive but saying just make it work without knowing what goes within making a game.

I would say the is console getting a pretty good game running nicely @30fps.

Try playing a PC then saying there is not a difference between 30 and 60 fps. It's like saying there is no difference between SD & HD please don't post stupid comments.

Neither could activision is their game maps where battlefield size. There both war games and to me activision actually knows why the game runs at 30 and it's cause it's size. This is the reason games like GTA, large map areas like MMO really don't have the level of detail and framerate of their smaller counterparts.

I like COD games but Activisions remarks are stupid when it comes to this framerate issue...

I must admit I have been a little concerned about the lack of info on the 360. Plenty of other games coming around the same time if this were to be delayed, but it would still be very disapointing if it were to happen.

I'm going to have to buy the damn game on both platforms then. Sheesh. To compare, although I really can't stand the PS3 controller for FPS games, it just never feels right.

If I can sell a kidney in time I might get a PC to play it on too, but I've been drinking a lot Gin recently and feel that the trade-in value for my organs at GAME must be decreasing by the glass.

DICE should have taken a cue from Bethesda. By showing Skyrim on XBOX it will be a bonus when PC players play the game. By showing off the DX11 Battlefield all you will get is what is happening now a bunch of complaining as to why the consoles dont look as good.
