Bethesda 'will support Wii U if it's powerful enough'

Skyrim, Rage and Prey 2 could all come to the new Ninty console

Bethesda will bring its core titles, such as Skyrim, Rage and Prey 2, to the Nintendo Wii U... if the tech is powerful enough.

Although we saw big name franchises like Call of Duty come to the original Wii, for Bethesda, the amount of re-development that would have gone into names like Fallout and Elder Scrolls made the lower powered machine a no go.

"Our motto has always been: We want to make our gmaes available to the widest audience possible on whatever platforms that will support the game," marketing VP Pete Hines told MCV.

"So to whatever extent new consoles fit with the kind of games we are making and support them technologically, we would certainly do that.

"The Wii wasn't even an option - we would have to make wholesale changes to the games we were making on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC to make them work on Wii."

Things are looking up for the Wii U and the PlayStation Vita though, since they are said to boast significantly improved technology compared to their predecessors.

Hines still remains cautious though: "I honestly know nothing about the tech specs of the new platforms and whether or not they are a good fit for what we are making with say Rage and Skyrim and Prey 2," he said.

"If they are a good fit for the kind of games we are making then absolutely, we would look to put them out for those. But beyond that I can't get into specifics."

Nintendo fans are in for a long haul if Skyrim does come to the Wii U. It was confirmed earlier this week that the massive RPG has hundreds of hours of content. We expected nothing less.

If Nintendo are really serious they need to get these guys, plus Rockstar and Valve developing for the Wii U.

The controller would make a perfect pipboy!

I agree YCshinobi. Nintendo really need Rockstar, Valve and Bethesda to support this console if they have any hope of competing. I know the Wii U will have Lego City Stories on it, but how will sales rise for that game if there isn't games like L.A. Noire, Skyrim and other free roam, MMO's surrounding it.

Can't see the point tho. The big companies aren't going to redevelop a game just to incorporate the newfangled WiiU controller so it'll just likely be a 3rd party port. Won't convince existing Xbox and ps3 owners to shell out for another console. Nintendo need to build some serious titles from the ground up - and I don't mean more games with the Italian plumber or the punk hedgehog...

gmaes? Really? I mean some browsers (such as google chrome which I'm using now) have built in spell-checkers, yet things like this still happen. Do you even re-read what you've typed before you put it up? I'd advise "Preview" instead of "Submit" being a good option for you to have like we have on the forums. Its not even like you spelled a name wrong or a word like illusionist, but gmaes? Brilliant.

What are you talking about? Didn't you get the memo?

We all decided, literally moments before that story was published, that the word games was to be respelled as gmaes.

Seemed like a great idea at the time.

Right, better go before I fan the flmaes of this story and get the blmae for it.

This is tiring to hear, why is it everyone is always chasing down ridiculously powerful tech to barely run games, and every time something new comes out they want to push the limits, that is such crackpot coding it's stupid. How about you guys utilize minimal power to the best of your ability, it's so lazy to just say throw more RAM at it and higher clock cycles...seems like ingenuity and skill takes a back seat to crank up the amount of power and see if it runs. With all the technological advances made, the same thing always seems to true throw more power at it.

This is why I always applaud a dev house when they can build a top notch gaming experience on a limited console as to a dev on PC, PC devs have nearly limitless options in terms of power and graphical fidelity and consoles do not. Not a knock against PC devs but sometimes it's just a disheartening trend to see...more power, powerful enough...thought we were reaching the point of diminishing return on the visual standpoint. What the hell are they using all the extra power for? I'm personally tired of FPS games that have buildings that you can't just kick the damn door down blocking your path, what kind of soldier are you that gets stopped by a normal locked door? Where is the depth? How about using the power wisely, build better maps (CoD is guilty of this crap to the max) BFBC2 tried it's best but structures were limited to 3 - 5 specific layouts devoid of realistic design. Here's hoping that BF3 makes takes that one step further, no more locked doors!!!!

Really which console actually needed any of these companies to be viable in the console market? How many Valve games on PS3 and 360 have compared to the vast amount of other noteworthy and skilled dev houses already on these consoles making A class games. Bethseda and Valve are mainly PC dev guys, Rockstar is console dev who took off on the PS2 GTA combination...Last time I checked Wii didn't need either of them to be the top seller it was. Now if these guys can come and build great gaming for the Wii U then that is something worth noting, but but simply porting stuff from PC is well, lame. But I know that the Wii U with it's purported power won't miss it's fate to have ports shoved onto it with features tacked on to utilize the iPad controller.

Well Skyrim, Rage and Prey 2 I'll pick up on my PC more than likely anyway, so this argument doesn't aply to me. I'll be still buying the console at launch.

It's a bit strange that key devs don't even know the system specs yet. Seems like an important thing to publish if Nintendo want people to make games for it.

He. He. I know. No specs for the console? This is how it plays out.

Hey, Bethesda. You want to make some new games for our sparkly new console?
Yeah, sure. What kind of power and memory are we talking here? Just so we can map out some ideas.
Well, we're still experimenting with power and memory, but the disks have a pretty good storage space. Over five GB.
Uh. We'll just get on with looking at what you can get out of it. Then we'll reconsider. So don't expect any launch games from us.
