Microsoft and Sony are "experimenting" with Kinect and Move for what could be the foundations of their next-generation console plans.

"I don't think they are avoiding doing another machine but testing the water," Hartmann told MCV.
"Rather than coming out and saying 'this is our console now,' I think they are playing around and seeing what they can do. These guys know how to manufacture the chips or push the memory, the kind of thing you usually get with each new console generation. But now everyone is looking for innovation and at online components, so they are experimenting.
"It's not been a case of just jumping on the Wii wagon - it's been a case of learning about what Wii did and trying to take it somewhere.
"When Microsoft made the Xbox, I assume there were always plans for Xbox 360. It was just the first Xbox was the machine to get it there. Microsoft was new to the party, so they used Xbox 1 to test the water. It's the same principle."
Hartmann's comments follow reports citing "industry sources at a top developer" that the PlayStation 4 will become a real thing in the next 18 months.
Prior to that, another story pointed to an Xbox 720 reveal next year, with developer Crytek claimed as the source of the rumour.

i dont get it when they say the motion controls will come as standard. surely its better to give people the choice? i dont want it. and if its built in they can f*** off - my xbox is ontop of a 6' cabinet in the corner of the sitting room. not the most ideal place for in-biult motion sensors to accurately read the movement of people playing in front if the telly
just make a top-end pc in a sexy case for alot less money plz. and keep the xbox controllers the same

Right, everyone stop buying Kinect & Move. We do not want them in the next generation.
Please let them be a fad.

They're here to stay - some manning up may be required.

Not sure that's entirely fair. Yes, motion controls are here to stay by the looks of things, but people should still have a choice in how they play their games. WE are the customers remember, not the other way around.
But this is all just a guessing game from 2K at this time. If, however, they're right about motion controls being standard then my decision to not invest in the next generation will be confirmed.
Outside of buying a Nintendo Wii for the Wife and kids I've absolutely no interest in motion control gaming and never will. But that's because I'm an old fart.

Kinect would work better with a better camera and its own brain (dedicated chip) if it sends a lot of information then HDMI is quicker than usb 2.0

Kinect & Move can be standard for all I care, they just don't interest me at this point in time, just give me a standard joypad and I'll be happy as Larry.

if the 720 has a kinect 2.0 built in i wont be using it. its an amazing piece of tech, but its just not for me. i dont want to shout out commands in mass effect 3, using left/right trigger for commands and d pads for positioning is enough for me. until i see interconnectivity that screams out to me, it'll be just an expensive part of the console i wont use

Kinect-like technology could be good for game consoles merely due to the interface. It's only when they are overused in games that don't need such controls that people would complain.
As for Move, I can imagine more motion controls in future console generations but I very much doubt it would become standard in the next Playstation. Apart from being way too similar to the Wii, Move hasn't exactly been a huge success.

As long as i can sit down throw grenades, reload, melee, fly a fighter jet/ship,shout orders, drive drink larger or cider with screwing up with lag from an armchair, kinect is the best.

By the time the next xbox and the playstation come out kinect and move might be compatable with at least 80% of newly released games in one form or another anyway. I have said it before, there is enormous potential to be tapped and god willing they can do it correctly. Also the next gen machines will more than likely make that job easier. These beasts when they come will be eye openers i can feel it.

Give me Oblivion style game with a motion controler, then I can swing my axe into orc's ect for fun.But as it stand now it's just not for me.

Lol, it's about time they "tested the water". In fact, a water-cooling system for the next xbox might not be such a bad idea in all truth! Microsoft will never live it down if the heatsink of the 720 melts like an ice cube in a furnace!

This guy should not get people worked up like this.
There is absolutely no way that MS would alienate the FPS market that it's console clearly dominates saleswise...for Sony it's possible but still not likely and if they were even thinking about if they're not anymore since everyone that owns a system has not bought the peripheral...sure MS sold over 10mil Kinects but that's not even close to half of even a quarter of the console owners and forget Move it bombed when it hit the market and sold 8 mil in 9 months while Kinect sold 10 in 4 months

What a pointless article, serioulsy CVG why even bother posting such crap, of course they're experimenting with new technology. You must have been really desperate to publish this
