Uncharted film has new director, Johansson role unclear

Neil Burger set to 'rework' project

Sony has reportedly signed up Limitless director Neil Burger to write and direct Uncharted's big screen movie debut, with reported roles for Mark Wahlberg, Scarlett Johansson and Eva Mendes unclear.

According to a report on Variety, Burger will replace former Uncharted director David O. Russell, who recently quit the film project citing "creative differences".

Russell's version of the Uncharted film was said to star Mark Wahlberg as Drake and, according to the actor himself, Johansson and Mendes were also being considered for roles in the movie.

The original script focused on the character of Drake and his extended family, placing them in 'fraught, globetrotting situations with some of the world's most influential people'.

Basically it didn't sound much like the game at all. But the good news is the new director's apparently keen to keep his version of the PS3 adaptation a lot closer to the Naughty Dog game.

Burger apparently landed the role after the studio and producers Avi Arad, Ari Arad, Charles Roven and Alex Gartner sparked to his more faithful vision for Uncharted.

Burger will now rework the project, Variety reports, with Mark Wahlberg and Scarlett Johansson's supposed roles unclear.
