Left 4 Dead 2 DLC will release early

Community rises to Valve's achievement-based challenge

Valve promised to release the Dead Air DLC for Left 4 Dead 2 early if the community earned the Stream Crosser achievement 20,000 times, as part of a testing phase for the upcoming 'Cold Stream' campaign. You laughed at the challenge.

You laughed it right out of the park, in fact. The challenge was completely in just 4 hours, but you kept going. 24 hours passed and 60,774 of you had done it. You clearly want your DLC.

Valve is pleased. "Thanks!" it said on the official site. "This is a great stress test on Cold Stream. If you can, keep playing and submitting bugs this weekend. We have a bunch of bug reports and feedback - seems some of you don't believe in purple and black checkerboard paintings."

Disappointingly, though, Valve seems unable to commit to a date earlier than the July 22 it had previously confirmed. "We are going to try and release it as early as possible but will release it on July 22nd the latest," said the developer. "It isn't currently ready for release as we have been working on The Terminal and Finale maps and need to test them more internally," it explained.
