Black Ops: Annihilation PS3 and PC release date confirmed

Treyarch unveils Annihilation map pack release date and it's soon

PS3 and PC fans of Black Ops have had to wait almost a month for their dose of the Annihilation map pack, but Treyarch has just confirmed that the expansion will release on July 28 for both platforms.

Of course, Xbox Live users have been tucking in for well over a month now to the Annihilation map pack, which features four new maps including Silo, Hangar 18, Drive-In and Hazard (see descriptions below), with the splendid zombie-survival fest Shangri La rounding out the offering.

No word on pricing just yet, but as always looks like there will also be the traditional double XP weekend to celebrate the new Black Ops goodness. Looking forward to this PS3 fans? Let us know in the comments below.

Here's the word on each map from Treyarch's online director, Dan Bunting

Drive-In: This one-time American movie paradise once showed war movies; now it's the location for one. The holes in the screen have been filled with snipers. The popcorn is stale, but they're still serving up hot lead in the concession stand. Drive-In is a small map, very fast paced. It's similar to Nuketown in that it's a fast, close-quarters map.

Hazard: Ah, the Cuban good life! This swanky golf course features lush greens, oceanic driving ranges, and long-range sniping opportunities straight down its deadly fairway. Never mind getting a hole in one - try not to get lots of holes in you. Those skilled with assault rifles and sniper rifles will enjoy this one.

Silo: If you've ever said to yourself, "This is a great map, but what it really needs are missiles launching right next to my ear, so every time I line up to snipe someone, I pee myself instead" - and really, who hasn't? - this is the map for you. Muddy sloped terrain, a smattering of construction equipment, and a few carefully placed sniper towers make this military outpost a tactical challenge regardless of game type.

Hangar 18: This one's a tribute to the Groom Lake military base where the government developed the SR-71 Blackbird - or, depending on the conspiracy theories you choose to believe, where they stored a recovered alien spacecraft. Either way, you'll be in an out of buildings frequently here, not to mention using a multi-million-dollar piece of reconnaissance aircraft for cover. But that's not the only secret project it's hiding. Hangar 18 has a couple of fun Easter eggs.

Shangri-La: It's one of the more creative and clever map designs we've got so far,The diehard fans are really going to appreciate the story hooks in this one as well."

Not that I care for Black Ops but even I know the Xbox 360 got the latest expansion Annihilation on June 28, under one month ago, and that PS3 owners will have had to wait exactly one month to get it.

PC & PS3 owners should start boycotting these dlc packs, until they stop with this stupid timed exclusivity. I'm all for exclusive games but if MS can't pony up the cash for new IP's or 3rd party support, they shouldn't bother parting with the millions they pay for timed exclusivity that goes into the pocket of an already profitable franchise . That in the end only delays content for a month on other platforms. Hows is that advancing the industry?
When 'unfortunately' Call of duty has become the same game in different packaging, take a page out of DICE's book and spend a bit of that cash you money grabbing CANTS!

I get mad at the selfishness of M$. I have an Xbox, but them going all exclusive over everyone's arses doesn't make me want to go out and buy a copy of B.O., nor any other game they manage to peddle their exclusivity package to devs for advanced Xbox access. Doing so just causes strife and discord amongst ps3. pc and xbox gamers. But the filthy lucre of the green sheen and supposedly coming first bmeans more to you than the fans aye M$. Every time I hear about them pimping themselves out, I lose another 0.00125 of the 0.00200% of respect I have remaining for these greedy corporates.
