New Spider-Man movie trailer looks a LOT like Mirror's Edge - Video

We compare the two side-by-side. Eyebrows raise.

We knew there was something fishy going on when we caught a glimpse at the top-notch trailer for the new Spider-Man movie yesterday.

It was tough to put our finger on at first. There was just something oddly recognisable... Something... eerily familiar.

And then it hit us: the whole first-person section of the footage harks back to EA and DICE's rather under-rated Mirror's Edge.

And when we say 'harks back' we mean 'looks spookily like a homage'.

Have a gander at our video comparison below to see what we're talking about...

The Amazing Spider-Man is due for cinema release in July next year.

It stars Brit actor Andrew Garfield as the genetically troubled super-hero.

Check out the movie trailer in full below.

As a Mirror's Edge fan I thought it was pretty cool. As long as it means it reminds Dice/EA there's a huge market out there for Mirror's Edge 2 im happier :D

So what's the story behind that CVG? Come on, find out. Try some investigative journalism for a change!

    That really can't be coincidental.

I thought the exact same thing. Made me wish for teo things. A new Mirrors edge. and that dice would make a Spiderman game. Sadly both seem pretty unlikely at the mo.

Saw the trailer yesterday. I thought it looked similar, but I didn't realise how eerily identical the motions are. There's too much there for it to be a coincidence.

The trailer looks amazing, and the first person mode was a nice idea. Yeah, maybe they borrowed it from Mirror's Edge, but when did you last see a film or play a game that didn't have something in it that was somewhat similar to something else? Even if there is no intention to copy, many people around the world come up with strikingly similar ideas all the time.

Call of Duty Black Ops looks scarily like the N64 hit GoldenEye, both games have AK-47's!!!

    It's a conspiracy

I played spiderman on the ps1 and 1 or 2 of the games on the ps2 (cant for the life of me remember which ones) and thought they were brilliant! I also love the films so frankly im rather excited about the new game and film, they look awesome!

Maybe the CGI guys on films are just getting lazy...

Seeing as the film isn't out until 2012, I imagine there's a lot of post-production work yet to be done. It wouldn't surprise me if they just made something up quickly to put in the trailer; it might not even appear in the final film.

anyone notice how the music (starting at about 35s in) is very similar to the dead island trailer music too? tut tut...

Actually reminds me of the first person sequence in "DOOM the Movie", which arguably was, the best part of "DOOM the Movie". :P

I saw this trailer on Total Film last night and I thought exactly the same thing, this is just like Mirror's Edge. It will look pretty terrific in 3D.

    Somewhat Similar lol?

It was pretty much an exact copy aside from the background and objects they climbed.

I like how CVG took a WHOLE bunch of scenes from Mirror's Edge and mashed it up to make it look like a direct copy. Whilst the FPS view of Spiderman was very obviously inspired by Mirror's Edge, it wasn't a direct ripoff like CVG is painting it out to be in the video.

CVG didn't make that comparison. They just embedded the video made by some else.

Anyway, this just shows you where Hollywood is going nowadays. They get a franchise and then reboot the franchise the next day. There was supposed to be a Spiderman 4 and then this one 1-2 years later rebooting the 4th Raimi one. It's preddy disgusting. Now we also have the 3rd Nolan Batman out soon and then they will be remooting it yet again. Not 10/20 years after, but they will start work almost immediately.

We will be at a stage where there will be trilogy after trilogy after trilogy of the same damn stories. Oh we want a dark and moody version of a franchise.. after that, we will do a bright colouful tongue in cheek version, then after that we will to a teen-angst version, then after that we will do a gothic version, then after that we'll go full circle... AARRGH!!!

I thought the mirror's edge portion of the movie really sold this trailer for me.

I know you probably have a sponser for those videos that are embedded, and they bring in money for you guys. Either switch to one that works, make it work or use youtube like everyone else.

It just doesn't work, it's crap.
