Epic: Bulletstorm 'didn't make money for us'

People Can Fly shooter was a hit with critics, not with consumers

Bulletstorm had flair, brutality, lush visuals and unique gameplay. Reviewers liked it, but the punters just didn't respond.

Epic president Mike Capps has told Kotaku that the shooter, developed by Polish studio People Can Fly, "didn't make any money" for Epic, despite its critical acclaim.

Yet Capps insists the firm doesn't regret releasing the game. Obviously it would have been better if the game made shed loads of cash, but Capps acknowledges the game's quality and emphasizes his wish for Epic to continue being experimental with its releases. People Can Fly, he added, could have just been ordered to work on Gears of War content, but that's not what he wants.

"The studio has shipped AAA content," said Capps. "The next thing we do with People Can Fly will be great," he pledged.

Bulletstorm is a score-attack first-person shooter that rewards players big points for chaining together elaborate and incredibly brutal kill combos with over-sized guns and ridiculous physics. Epic released 'Gun Sonata' DLC for the PC version in May, adding two new Echoes maps - Guns of Stygia and Crash Site, and three new multiplayer Anarchy maps: Hotel Elysium, Villa and Sewers.
