Apple has reportedly set a September 5 US release date for the as yet unannounced iPhone 5.

According to IBTimes, Swisscom is Apple's partner in Switzerland, together with carriers Orange and Sunrise.
The CEO of US telecoms firm Verizon also confirmed in a conference call with analysts over the weekend that the new iPhone will be released sometime "in the fall".
Last week, after reporting record revenue and earnings for its most recent financial quarter, Apple dropped the biggest hint yet that it's to launch iPhone 5 in the coming months, referring to an upcoming "product transition" set to impact its September quarter.

haha^^ Dont get me wrong, i like iphones and what you can do with them. But is this latest phone really needed? Are the improvements enough to justify an upgrade? I dont think so, its all about raking in the millions.

Ahhh roll on the iPhone 5, who can complain at a new version of the best smartphone in the world!?
Just sold a Samsung Galaxy S2 that I had as a free upgrade so that I can just snap this up when it comes out.
Look forward to it.

Right now, I have the 3GS..by the end of the year I can renew my contract, and I'm sure I won't get the new iPhone when that time comes. It's not that I hate the iPhone, but it's just more of the same and I want something new. I want to explore my new phone...

I wanted something new too, however a few days with android and I had seen pretty much all it had to offer. It was at that point that I realised that IOS does it all better, smoother. Plus the apps in general were rough/flakey compared to iphone apps.

Yeah, the apps were one of the main reason to get the 3GS. However, I rarely use those apps...So I'll go for WP7 by the end of the year, heard some good stuff...

Yeah I've owned an iphone 3gs, Samsung galaxy and a HTC HD7, and to be honest the best phone imo was the HTC windows 7 phone, can't exactly put my finger on why though it does seem more polished from the outset where as the galaxy was great hardware marred by the error prone android - I even had a replacement handset as I thought my first one was dodgy - and the iphone was nice and polished, though too militant with the content you can put on there. Couldn't fault the operation though.

When are people going to realise you don't get a 'free' upgrade? My contract costs me about £30 a month less than it used to because I didn't take up an upgrade. That's £540 over an 18 month contract.
For my money there hasn't been a really worthwhile iphone upgrade since the 3G, and that's what I've still got. I can go online, check emails and listen to music. I'd expect a hell of a lot more for spending another £500 odd.

While I agree the App store is Far better then Android marketplace I disagree with iOS being better! There is so much more you can do with the Android system, Having just gone from a 3gs to a galaxy s2 I found the freedom to customise your phone so much more varied than the all to strict iOS. Even jailbroken as my 3gs was it was still limited in what you could do and a damn site more hassle just to change a simple thing like the text alert.
With Android Apps like Zedge getting new wallpapers/ringtones is easy plus there is a ton of emulation software available on android and the ability to add new home launchers and then you have Flash based web browsing(one of the biggest advantages) and the ability to play back varied file formats.
In the end iOs is like a wag,.. Good to look at easy to get into but ultimately shallow. Where as Android is like Suzy Perry a bit rough round the edges but you know once you push the right buttons you'll never look back.

This is a half genuine, half cynical question, since Im currently looking to upgrade from my iphone 3G, and am getting very annoyed with the lack of info on the iphone 5, so are seriously looking at the Galaxy S 2, What is the this freedom you speak of? Serious question, can you provide tangible examples, I've never felt restricted by the iphone, and your example of changing a text alert makes me smile, as this is simple on the iphone!
Flash based browsing is not an issue for me, as a web designer, flash based websites are (hopefully) a thing of the past, as they are totally in-accessible, so do you have any other examples of the freedo you speak of?

Out of the box the iPhone only gives you limited options in customizing your device and even jailbroken with Cydia installed its not that straightforward.
With the Galaxy I had a ton of options to customize my device including wallpapers/ring and text alerts/widgets/motion based controls/Font styles as well as the excellent voice commands which allow you to do a lot more then iPhones own voice command i.e Being able to send texts open Apps and even using the GPS to navigate just using your voice all very handy when driving.
At the end of the day this is just my opinion I did a lot of research into Android before I upgraded as I wanted to be sure that I would not feel dissapointed when I swapped operating systems and so far I'm very happy with Android, There is nothing wrong with iOS and I loved my 3GS but having had it for 2 years it was time to try something new.
Oh and in what way is it easy to change the text alert on the iPhone with out Jailbraking(excluding the pre-installed ones obviously)

Yeah custom tones is not, I thought you just meant changing tones. The customisation thing isnt really an issue for me, the first couple of phone had I was changing everything, I even remember creating a whole load of photoshop designs for my old SE K800i, but these days even custom ring tones, I cannot be a***d with.
The voice command thing sounds very interesting though!
