Portal 2 drives 42% jump in Steam revenue

Valve's puzzler leads the list of top selling Steam games in the first half of 2011

Steam games generated revenue of $468 million in the first half of 2011, up 42 percent from $329 million during the same period last year, according to research by analyst firm FADE.

Valve's Portal 2 was the No.1 title in terms of both units sold and revenue generated, ahead of indie games Magicka and Terraria, which both sold over 500,000 units during the six month tracking period, even though the latter only released in mid-May.

FADE said yesterday that Xbox Live Arcade generated record revenue during the first half of 2011, with Full House Poker and Torchlight leading the digital sales chart.
