The "second generation" of Kinect games will show the technical leaps developers have made with Microsoft's motion sensor, according to Rare studio head Scott Henson.

"The great [thing] with Kinect is it's all software," added Rare incubation software director Nick Burton. "Yeah, there's a sensor bar there, but everything is dealt with in software, which means we can continue to push it."
Burton said that improvements to Kinect motion tracking have allowed the studio to tackle sports like golf and darts in Kinect Sports: Season 2, both of which proved problematic when developing the original game.
In addition, he said the studio's "really pushing" voice control for its upcoming sequel. One example is a virtual caddy which recognises over 300 phrases, allowing you to perform actions like changing your club with your voice.
Speaking in March, Henson and Burton said Rare had only taken advantage of "10 to 15 percent" of Kinect's technical potential - and that the studio's going great guns to fully explore the "virtually limitless" possibilities afforded by the device.

Kinect will never replace joypads though! I do like the idea of voice control combined with Joypad.

Rare, here's £20. There's more where that came from if you get cracking on new Kameo and Conker games.

They are not saying that at all. It means they have made advances with the Kinect Software and it feels like Kinect 2 would....its all about the software kids...

Didn't they say that The starwars connect game was using the more advanced software for kinnect?
And we all know that was just pure rubbish.

All good- Kinect Adventures and Kinect Sports work really well so it's cool to see the sequels will be improved. The Star Wars game looks dodgy- well, the combat does. The pod races look pretty good though.

Voice control seems to be the systems main drive.
Every Xbox owner has a headset, so why not just implement voice command with that and save everyone a fortune.
As for Rare? They're Microsoft's Kinect whores. Their opinion of Kinect is worthless in my view.

Some games do use the headsets, I seem to remember a lot of the more recent Tom Clancey games have voice control through the headset.
The problem with Kinnect is that because it's expensive nobody will buy one just for little extra voice control and camera manipulation extras and most established genres probably won't translate across well. Child of Eden was a missed opportunity, it looked good but Kinnect didn't add enough to the game, which is a shame really because I had high hopes.

Agreed. Kinect has not impressed me too much , I hate on rail gameplay for the most part. Mass Effect 3 looks to kinda head in the right direction with the ability to tell teammates to use certain powers. So far though Kinect hasn't made it to core gamers hearts yet & still has a ways to go.

Almost a year on and still all we here from Microsoft and the likes of Rare - who are owned by Microsoft in case you have forgotten - is "Kinect will soon to deliver! The second wave is just around the corner!" and yet all we keep getting is tiresome shovelware and failed experiments likes Child of Eden and that awful Star Wars game.
The reality is that it's never going to deliver anything like some of you keep fantasising about or Microsoft have ever promised.
Lets be clear about this. Kinect is absolute sh*t; nothing but an expensive Eyetoy with a few extra bells and whistles.
Microsoft can bleat on about how many units they initially sold in it's first few months, but it counts for nothing when, as a system, it's a complete failure. And lets be honest, pre-owned Kinects are filling up the shelves of GAME and CEX at quite an alarming rate.
I've got one word for people who blow a load on Kinect. Mug.

Gah. I still don't get the whole idea of motion control. If I wanted to exercise, dance, play a sport and what have you, I'd actually go outside and do those things in reality. If I want to play games I'd use a damn keyboard and mouse or a controller.
