Half-Life star mentions Valve's 'new game'

GlaDOS actress set to voice mysterious title

Voice actress Ellen McLain - the classically trained opera singer behind Portal's GlaDOS - is set to lend her talents to a mysterious new game from Valve.

That's according to the Tweet teases of her husband and fellow Valve voice actor John Lowrie better known as Team Fortress 2's Sniper - and various villains in the Half-Life series.

Lowrie revealed on the social networking site that the voice of GlaDOS "is going in Tuesday for a new game and more Portal work."

Of course it's already known that Portal 2's set to see a free add-on pack with new test chambers, but unless McLain is also working on DoTA 2 here other half may have outed work on something secret.

Ellen has previously worked as the voice of the Overwatch in Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One and Half-Life 2: Episode Two.

She also supplied the voice of the announcer in the now free-to-play Team Fortress 2... but that doesn't count as a "new game", does it?

What do you reckon it could be friends?

Well it wouldnt be TF2 as its F2P and not 'new', portal has been mentioned and wont get a sequel for some time, so really all that is left is Dota 2, L4D3, HL3/HL2:E3, or a new IP

While she's best known for GlaDOS ... let's not forget that she played the sometimes overlooked voice of the Overwatch Controller in Half Life 2 ...

I choose to be optimistic that it is episode 3 she is working on, even though it will make me sad when we are eventually told it definitely isn't Half-life related.

It's unlikely it's a new installment in the Half-Life series, but there's nothing against us all hoping.

    I hope...

Half-Life 2 Episode 3 or Half-Life 3. For crying out loud, Valve, you're treatment of the Half-Life franchise and its fans is terrible!!

The Half-Life saga's becoming a bit like Duke Nukem Forever, except Valve aren't even saying they're working on it.
    - I just hope it doesn't end up being 'finished' by Gearbox!

How could it be Half Life 3 !?!?

People who keep saying that should be publicly flogged! They're not done with HL2 yet!!!

Not finishing what is probably the most brilliant series in FPS gaming since the dawn of time, would be like Tolkien going "can't be arsed to write Return of the King".

I have defended Valve so many times that they should send me birthday presents, and always applauded them for being "the last real PC developer" that hadn't shafted it's fans. Now, if you "skip" HL2EP3 (or just breeze over it with a quick out-the-door episode) I will take all those gold stars you have in my book, and ... murder someone with an axe!

Didn't Gabe Newell say the HL2 episodes were basically HL3 in all but name? The way HL2 originally ended would suggest semi sequels weren't even planned so if anything I'd say Half Life 3 is a definite no no. At a push HL2E3 but it doesn't seem Valve are that bothered with single player focussed stuff any more, unless the few ramblings over the last couple years of them working on specific game development ideas somehow means they're trying something grand with the next ep. Ever since they got Steam working better each year, it seems they've been distracted with other things.

Would be pretty brilliant if they skipped 3 and went straight to 4. But it's more the sort of hilarity you'd find in TF2 or Portal than Half Life.

    Or Leisure Suit Larry.
