Japanese 3DS sales crash in advance of price cut

PSP makes the most of a slow week for Nintendo's portable, while Rhythm Heaven tops the software chart

3DS sales plummeted in Japan during the week Nintendo announced plans to cut the portable's price by over a third later this month.

Sales of Nintendo's portable were down from 31,826 units to 16,415 during the week ended July 31, while PSP sales jumped by over a third to 36,659 units.

Elsewhere, PS3 retained its slim lead over Wii, shifting 20,704 units to the Nintendo console's 18,232, Andriasang reports.

Everyone's Rhythm Heaven for Wii came in at No.1 on the software chart for the second straight week, ahead of new entries Queen's Gate Spiral Chaos for PSP and Devil Survivor 2 for 3DS, while the PS3 versions of Operation Flash Point: Red River and Dungeon Siege 3 entered at No.11 and No.18 respectively.
