GC 2011: Sony confirms UK PS3 price cut to £199

New EU and US prices announced at Sony GamesCom conference

Sony has just confirmed, for CVG, a PS3 price cut to £199 in the UK.

The news comes following Andrew House's announcement of PS3 price cuts for the US and EU at GamesCom effective from today.

Amazon UK beat Sony to the punch, however, as the publisher's conference began in Cologne. The online retailer dropped the 320GB model to £215.20 and the 160GB model to £192.

Many were expecting a PS3 price cut to be announced during Sony's GamesCom conference especially since Nintendo's Wii U reveal at E3 earlier this year.

Ubisoft tipped a price cut for both 360 and PS3 this year back in June.

This doesn't bode well for Nintendo, but oh well, that's their fault for waiting so long to join this generation, Nintendo's arrogant attitude at the moment honestly makes me want to see them fall, not completely flop or anything, but they really need a reality check, much like a certain Sony needed earlier this gen.

Yes, Sony is restoring "other OS" because whether their customers wanted it or not, their customers paid for it. They're also re-introducing backwards compatibility with the PS2, extending the warranty for YLOD to three years, implementing some security for PSN, and releasing many games with Toy Story quality graphics.
They promise that this year will be the year of the playstation. :P
Don't mind me, just having some harmless fun. ;)

So the US have their price reduced to $249.99, which is £152.22 at the current exchange rate. and the UK again get screwed, as usual, by having to pay 33% more.

Nintendo joined this generation before Sony did. And, they've 'won' it too. Generation is a timeline thing, not a specification thing. But then, you already knew that.
I am not aware of any Nintendo arrogance at the moment though, care to elaborate?

Still £200 for the cheapest model, 5 years after launch? PS3 has been available for around £220 for ages, in some form or other (provided you shop around online). I'd like one but this hasn't tempted me.

You mean like arrogantly admitting they cussed up the launch of the 3DS or trying to make amends to early adopters by giving them free stuff as an apology?

    should of been £179.99

Well if someone sees it in the shops for under £199 then that is good. The cheapest Xbox 360 is £149. It would be good if it was £149 tho. But SONY can do that before the Wii U comes out...poor Nintendo LoL
