GC 2011: PlayStation Vita RAM hasn't been halved - Sony

Handheld still packs a punch

Sony has confirmed that PlayStation Vita's RAM hasn't been halved as previously rumoured.

PS Vita Screenshot
Internet rumblings in May suggested Sony had revised and downgraded the hardware spec it originally gave developers in order to help it release the Vita with a price tag that's competitive with 3DS.

According to the reports, Vita's RAM had been halved, taking it from 512MB to 256MB.

Developers have been talking about the cut as if it were fact for a while now, but Sony has put the rumours to rest and issued a press release stating that Vita contains 512MB of RAM, with 128MB of dedicated VRAM.

Yes, wikipedia says xbox360 512mb and ps3 256mb system + 256mb video. WiiU will have at least 1gb, hopefully 2gb. Ram is a lot cheaper now, compared to 2006.

Crazy to think an iPhone 4, a phone which is over a year old, has the same amount of ram as the Vita and xbox 360, and twice that of a PS3.

Good news, more than likely this will help future proof the console. People shouldn't worry about GPU and CPU clocks speeds - it doesn't matter :)
