EA is looking to reimagine and bring back "a couple" of classic franchises, newly-promoted EA Labels president Frank Gibeau teased at GamesCom.

"We do have a couple of old franchises that we're looking at right now... reimagining them and bringing them back," he said.
"We've got 25 years of good IPs and I've worked on a few of them in my career like Road Rash and the Strike series. So I have a strong affinity for a lot of the things we've done in the past.
"We kind of have a rule which is you've got to have a really good reason to bring something back - What can you do to it that makes it fresh and brings something new to the equation of the franchise?"
He added: "Like basically what we did with Medal of Honor when we brought it back; we looked at going after more modern themes... the war that's happening now as opposed to a historical war. That was the reason we brought Medal of Honor back.
"But when we look at Road Rash, the Strike series or some of these other franchises we really challenge ourselves. We can't just put them on new tech with the same gameplay from ten years ago, we've got to have something new. That's the typical challenge that we have."
EA is hotly rumoured to be working away on a remake of Bullfrog RTS Syndicate, while a revival of Road Rash was reportedly canned some years ago.
What say you, readers? Which EA classics would you like to see revived in HD?

Is it just me or does "Road Rash" sound like some sort of Lorry Driver STD?

I spent countless hours playing Road Rash, probably would again if it isnt some half-assed arcade/dlc title.
Who knows, road rash may be a big seller once again.

I would like another Road Rash. I have fond memories of kicking cops into lamp posts and using old grannies as a ramp.

Road Rash and either Desert or Jungle Strike please, I'm not too bothered about which one.

I really get tired of saying this... That 'Road Rash footage' that everyone seems to think was canned by EA is not EA's footage. It's fan made. EA announced about a week before that footage was reported on that they were bringing back Road Rash, Populous and more. Why on earth would they announce it to immeadietly can it? They drop hints when they want to build hype, not trash dreams!
....Mostly anyway.

I know EA were toying with the idea of a new Road Rash a few years back:

The poster of this video claims he worked for EA and this was a dev test video. I'm sure he just stole it, because I remember seeing it somewhere else but with the same story that it was a piece of test footage to see how a new Road Rash game might look like.

They published it on the SNES, and I think it would suit a downloadable update on a handheld device - Rampart. Damn good fun.

A new Theme Park/Hospital game, Dungeon Keeper and System Shock 3 please.
TheCrimsonFenix on 17 Aug '11 said:
That'll be Road Rash with Need For Speed elements then
How about a Def Jam fighter that goes back to the style of Vendetta and not that awful rhythm altering s**tty fighter?
Dungeon Keeper?
Sim City???
Theme Hospital and Park?
So many choices and so obviously going to be bad updates or none at all. Choices choices.

Theme hospital!

BRING BACK DUNGEON KEEPER!!!

Why? I would buy them in a heartbeat - as long as they were on a disc. Just update the graphics, DO NOT MAKE THE STRIKE SERIES 3D, just isometric like it was before. DO NOT TOUCH THE GAMEPLAY EITHER. I own all the Megadrive Road Rash games, a selection of Ps1/Saturn versions and all the Strike games on Megadrive and the Ps1. I would love to play them again exactly as they were with HD graphics.
Ali_ on 17 Aug '11 said:
Not bothered about the Strike series as APache Air Assault filled that particular hole very nicely, but they HAVE to make Road Rash.

The Desert Strike series is due a f**king new installment, play Nuclear Strike on the PlayStation at least once a year and can not wait for a true sequel.
Imaduck on 17 Aug '11 said:
Seriously a new Dungeon Keeper in keeping with the original would just make my year.

BUDOKAN !!!! I had that game for Genesis! I forgot about that game. Ah, the days of my youth.
horngreen on 17 Aug '11 said:
Actually when you guys re-imagine a classic you tend to ruin it. That goes for most developers it seems but not always. If Road Rash was awesome it was for a reason, gameplay. Update the graphics and feel of it and release it. Look what Ubi has done with Driver. Seems like a good idea but that stupid shift feature just means any idiot without any skill can hold his own in the game. There's $60 Ubi won't be getting from me because they've ruined what made the original awesome.
Reegeee on 18 Aug '11 said:
YYYYEEEEEAAAAASSS This is exactly right! Though I'm not bothered by the disc bit.
I wish this guy would just shut his damn face and release the original games in Hd and then I WILL GIVE HIM TEN POUNDS.

Quoted for CVG.They seem to miss this everytime they report it. Haha.

Strike + Updated Graphics + Same gameplay * XBLA = Me a happy bunny
StonecoldMC on 18 Aug '11 said:
Just put a shiny updated version of Road Rash on XBLA and PSN, gauge the reaction and uptake then get to work on a brand new Game.
G00N3R on 18 Aug '11 said:
Played each of Desert, Jungle, Urban and Soviet strike. A new entry in the series with some modern mechanics, if done properly, would be cool. I'd also check out a re-release of those classic games on Steam.
paulhudd on 18 Aug '11 said:
EA, listen to me. ALL Strike games, redrawn like monkey island remakes, HD, exact same gameplay mechanics, same cheesey story, voice overs maybe, but they have to be cheesey voice overs me thinks, with the option to play with classic controls or twin stick shooter controls. the added accuracy of aiming the gun while strafing and moving about fluidly would be an amazing addition. Slap on stereoscopic 3d support for the privaledged 3d tv owners. XBLA each game seperately for 400/800 points and a disc collection version, you have yourself a heck load of sales and revenue. Or at least one sale from me.
_Marty_ on 18 Aug '11 said:
Holy s**t, that looks brilliant. I'd defo buy that.
MysticR on 18 Aug '11 said:
Remake Jungle Strike, with the same top-down view, and I'd be thrilled.

Road Rash was good fun, can't wait to see how it turns out.
I also enjoyed ESPN xtreme games on PSX, similar type of game. Now since we are bringing these older games back.. bring back streets of rage please, imo it has arguably the best sound in any game of it's time and it was great.
sonic_uk on 21 Aug '11 said:
That would be absolutely awesome, I'd buy that with no hesitation.
