The HD Collection includes updated HD versions of PS2 hits Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence and former PSP-only entry Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.

Ported to PS3 and Xbox 360 by Bluepoint, the studio behind the God of War Collection, the updated PS2 games will don 1080p visuals and run at 60fps.

The PS3-exclusive Ultimate version adds to the package with PS3 edition Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and a PSN code to download the original PSOne Metal Gear Solid.

It's due out in November.

Disappointed that they've decided to release MGS2 without the extra content of Substance. Even more annoying since they say that the new version is based on the Substance version of the main game. So it sounds as if they've gone out of their way to remove all of the extra content even though it was on the same disc to begin with. Plus it was on PC anyway, so they probably coud've ported it in a few days. Oh well. At least I now have an excuse to buy Subsistence and enjoy MGS3 properly.

Transfarring - "Conceptualized by Hideo Kojima, Transfarring refers to allowing saves to be transferred and played from a home console to a portable package and vice-versa at any time. This system currently runs on Sony video game platforms."

if they get Peace Walker right, this will be VERY interesting. MGS 3 is already awesome ...... Sheer quality and amount of game releases in the next few months is staggering, my wallet is starting to get worried ....

I'm with you there. I was looking forward to playing the 2 original MGSs again. :(

I hope I'm not mistaken, but I remember reading that you can import your save files from the PSP version of Peace Walker? I really hope so.

I have heard the VR missions are included

and MGS3 is the subsistence version and comes with Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2,which were actually on another disc in the subsistence PS2 version

Well on the official Metal Gear Solid Facebook they have posted 7 screen shots of MGS2 HD. One of them was this...

Now if I remember rightly, MGS2 didn't have VR Missions...but Substance did!? So CVG, could you confirm this?

yeah that's the picture i saw, thanks for putting it up

this is from the MGS2 wiki page

The main addition of Substance is the inclusion of an extra missions mode with 300 virtual reality training missions set in a computer-constructed environment and 200 "Alternative Missions" set in areas taken from the main game. The player can choose to play these missions as Solid Snake or Raiden, with alternate outfits for both characters becoming available as the player progresses.

this collection is going to be great

Predictably the "HD" collection is just the exact original games, same textures, same models etc. All they've done is change one line of code so that it now runs at 720p native. Like Splinter Cell, God Of War and countless others this looks no different than the original Ps2 versions running upscaled on the Ps3 and is just about the laziest example of programming there is. Yeah I'm angry. I wish for once when they promise a "HD remake" they could actually be friggin bothered to up the texture quality or improve the lighting or models a bit. The only Hd remake I'm aware of that looked substantially better than the original last gen offering is Ninja Gaiden Sigma, which looked lovely.

Isn't this going to be running at 1080p and 60fps? Or am I confusing that with the Ico collection?

I'm pretty sure it's more than one line of code. Plus one of the games used to be on the PSP and it looks substantially better on the HD collection. Although I agree, I would much prefer a game being remastered then just HD'd up. A good example was Twin Snakes on the Game Cube, or even OoT on the 3DS. Although both those games were sold at full price...so it's quite the pickle, either sell all the games in one collection and just HD them up. Or remaster each one individually and sell them as such.

I honestly don't know which I would prefer, especially with MGS2 & 3 as they still look decent.

Maybe I exaggerated a bit but I think you guys get my point. Its just lazy programming and I wish for once when we hear the promise of an "Hd Remake" the game is more than just outputting at a higher resolution with the same old textures and lighting as before. I seriosuly doubt they are running native 1080p - I think it will be more like 720p upscaled to 1080p. Don't know and don't really care about the fps, 60 or 30 is fine by me, I'm not fussy about that as long as the frame rate is stable. Anything under 15fps is choppy and anything under 10fps is unplayable in my book but I'm sure the game will run just fine. I am predictably disappointed about the lazy port although I'll still buy it, even though I have Mgs 1, 2, 3 (Subsistence) and 4, I am a fan of the series and would simply like it in my collection.
