Metro 2033 was a cracking little title which was bold, different and big on atmosphere, even if the shooting mechanics could have been a little tighter, so we've high hopes for sequel Metro: Last Light.
This being GamesCom week, publisher THQ has released a new batch of screenshots to give you a taste of the sequel, which will feature a purpose built plot not based on the novel Metro 2034, but a standalone tale picking up Artyom's story after the events of the first game.
If you haven't checked out the recent gameplay trailers, you really should as they're nothing short of stunning.

Gotta say, I'm really looking forward to this one. Missed out on the first as I don't have a 360 so I'm glad this one's PS3-bound too. Not a big FPS man myself, besides BioShock and Half-Life, as I find them too generic, but being a bit of a post-apocalypse freak this one looks right up my street.

Can't wait for this
The first is really good, I'll be getting this on PC hopefully. The first is gorgeous too but badly optimised, hopefully they'll clean this one up a bit.

I'm looking forward for this big time! The first was brillant, just a shame they caved into the multiplayer crowd.

I bought the first game a while back and have only played a couple of hours into it as I have a gaming backlog to clear and will return to it sometime in the future. However, from what I did play I really enjoyed it. As the article says, cracking little game. The atmosphere was awesome and the decisions you had to face regarding ammo vs wealth really made things interesting. I'll definitely be picking this up.

The 1st game is one of my all time favourites and the book is great too.
Really looking forward to this one just a shame they caved to the morons that only care about MP, you just know the game is gonna suffer as a result.

Yep, another developer wastes half their resources and makes the proper game shorter and worse because they are cramming in the obligatory online "Multiplayer" mode that no-one who bought the first game wanted or asked for. Infact I actually BOUGHT THE FIRST GAME BECAUSE IT DIDN'T HAVE MULTIPLAYER and I knew I was getting a longer and better game as a result. Seriously, what the f*** were they thinking? Its as if they think all gamers want is online "Multiplayer" and they feel they HAVE to include it for some unknown reason and shoehorn it into every single release nowadays. Bioshock 2 was worse as a result, so was Assassins Creed Brotherhood and Uncharted as well as a whole host of other games I could mention (but there are far too many). Do they really think people will give up playing their established franchises (we all know what they are) to play it? Of course not. A year from now you'll struggle to find a game to join while the established franchises will continue to be populated by the millions. I'm not saying 2 player or "Multiplayer" modes should never be included outside of the big franchises, but if they are they should genuinely add something new to the experience and should be seen as a bonus to compliment the full Single Player game. Its as if Single Player has become the bonus nowadays, and we're lucky to find a game (particularly a fps) that lasts longer than 5 hours as the focus has squarely been on the online modes that no-one except die hard fans of that game and its online mode will want to play for very long before going back to the big guns. When will they learn?

Amen! Bloody Amen!
The way I see it is that most hardcore multiplayer gamers tend to pick a favourite game or two and stay with it. If a game starts it's series with a SP only game, it should stay SP only.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way. Gaming has really changed in the last few years and for the worse in my opinion with the focus on Multiplayer rather than on the actual (Single Player) game, rip-off dlc that's actually cut from the main game so they can charge you extra for it, unresponsive, tiring, ackward motion controls no-one asked for or wanted being shoehorned into every game (or in the case of MS royally stabbing your existing customers in the back in favour of a quick buck), digital downloads which you have no way of actually owning (therefore losing stuff you've paid for when you have to format/replace your machine in the future and have no way of getting it back once the servers have shut down for good), and Drm which encourages piracy and treats proper legitimate customers like mugs while the pirates have a laugh at our expense playing a superior version of a game they stole. I really don't like the way the industry is heading right now and if it continues in this way in a few years I can see myself hanging up my joypad for good and sticking with the machines I already own by then and my retro consoles from a simpler (and imo better) time.
Sorry to sound like a moaning old f*^&, I'm just concerned at the way things seem to be headed and this focus on Mutliplayer over the actual main game is really starting to grate, especially as you say when they shove it into predominately Single Player experiences and make the game worse/shorter for it.
