GC 2011: Battlefield 3 multiplayer weapons, vehicles and maps detailed

Massive EA factsheet sets the scene

See all of CVG's GamesCom 2011 coverage

EA has sent out a four page Battlefield 3 multiplayer factsheet, which we've reprinted below courtesy of battlefield3gamer.com.

Battlefield 3 Screenshot
It features a list of game modes, weapons, weapon customisations, solider specialisations and vehicles available in the game, among other details, while revealing there'll be nine multiplayer maps at launch. Here's the lot:

KEY FEATURES

Play Your Way In the Biggest Battlefield Ever! From city streets to open rural landscapes, Battlefield 3 offers unparalleled depth and gameplay variety. Classic 'Rush' and 'Conquest' modes are complemented by newly introduced 'Team Death Match' for an instant action fix.

Extensive Co-op Campaign: Unique maps and missions are available for players to tackle online with a friend, using co-op specific gameplay features. Co-op missions tie into the single player story.

Powerful Social Features in Battlelog: Players will never go into battle alone thanks to the powerful new community features of Battlelog. Players can build their platoon, communicate with other gamers, and compare their multiplayer prowess with friends and foes alike. Battlelog is free on all platforms.

Frostbite 2-Enabled Destruction: Frostbite 2 creates a whole new level of life-like destruction. Enhanced large and small scale destruction now has a tactical purpose. Chip away at cover, blow holes in walls, deform the terrain, and bring down entire building façades on enemies.

Ultimate Vehicle Warfare: The signature Battlefield vehicle warfare experience is even richer and more rewarding. Damaged vehicles can now retreat or be defended until they automatically regain armor, while disabled vehicles become static gun platforms to cover players doing repairs.

Accessible Team-Play: Battlefield 3 offers fine-tuned team-play possibilities and accessibility for newcomers. Team-play is key for players to reach dominance on the battlefield.

Personalized Dog Tags: Players can express their individuality with their own dog tag that gets displayed to defeated enemies. Players choose a design with a dynamically tracked in-game stat that expresses their personality and play-style.

The Physical Battlefield: Use the environment to your advantage. Deploy your machine gun bipods on any mountable surface for greater accuracy. Claim the dog tag of enemies via skillful knife takedowns. Lay down suppressive fire to limit the combat capabilities of enemies.

Enhanced Persistence: There is always a new rank or reward to unlock in Battlefield 3. The depth and vast range of unlockable weapons, vehicles, upgrades, and tools will keep Battlefield 3 players occupied for years to come.

Holy shoot batman that's a heck of a lot of content....amazing amount of detail around the sheer variety of weapons and vehicles in the game, this is gonna be awesome I think!!!!
Only gripe, why not a straight up Free for all?????
I know Battlefield is more teamwork based but a good old fashioned blast by yourself would still be a welcome addition! :!:

Looks good except for the auto repair on vehicles. We'll have to see how it plays out, like the idea of disabling vehicles, then repairs going to them, but just retreating and waiting for auto regen, sounds a bit iffy.

Good to see real smoke grenades making a return, didn't like the only the Assault class having them in BC2. The vehicles specialisations sound very nice, thermal seems to be a big aspect. And Infantry only! I know a few people who will love this option, although BC2 kind of had it, finding a server with it was a joke.

I totally agree, not sure about auto repairing vehicles. I've always liked the idea of having to choose a specific class (whichever one has the repair tool - depends on which BF game you're playing) to get the most out of vehicles.
I can see myself spending a lot of time in the air in this game. Very happy to see the A-10, the Littlebird and the Super Cobra. I'm a bit surprised at the lack of the Bradley and the Blackhawk though, but the American vehicles listed are (with the exception of the A-10) all used by the Marine Corps. Maybe there'll be some US Army DLC (Bradley, Stryker, Blackhawk, Apache) in the future.

I actually like the sound of health re-generating vehicles. On maps that are so large i think its a good feature to have.

I don't really mind my own tank re-generating, it's the other guy's re-generating tank that worries me. ;)

SPOILER WARNING, This is new info about the game so if you want to remain in the dark until the BETA comes out turn away now:)

Offical message about vehicle regen was "Vehicles get disabled with a few hits and the regen turns into a bleed. Only regen if slightly damaged."

loads of other things like, Recon getting the MAV UAV kit, no UAV station like in BC2. Looks like the UAV wont carry any weapons, just to be used as a recon/spotting tool
Support choosing between having C4 and Claymores.
Mortars now being a Soldiers kit ( no idea which class is getting it. The mortar has to be deployed on the ground then you use it. So no magic mortars like there was in BC2.
SOFLAM is a laser targeter( not to be confused with the red laser attachement for guns) used to guide, missiles, bombs. Guess it will go to Recon class. He points that laser at a target, teammate then fires laser guided missile at it
EOD robot (Wall E) can repair vehicles, disarm mines, Arm and Disarm MCOMS. In the beta you will be able to place C4 on the robot. DICE will see how goes before deciding if you can add C4 to the robot in the final game.
EOD robot is controlled by the engineer. Engineers to get Stinger missiles to use against jets/helicopters
You cant use explosives against the MCOMS you have to arm them
The tank canister shell is the tank verison of the shotgun shell
No sensor grenades like in BC2 Instead the Recon get a sensor marker which he places on the ground. He can only place one at a time. It is easy to see and can be destoryed. If you walk/run past it you will appear on the mini map for about a second, plus a beeping noise i believe. You can slowly crouch walk/crawl past it and it wont notice you. So people blindly runing around will get noticed
Spotting is meant to be less of a wall hack this time. If you spot someone in your LOS then he goes behind cover then the magic triangle above his head disappears. You have to see someone to spot them. Spotting is still being worked on so wait out on that
No spawning on Squad leader only. it has been changed to anyone can spawn on anyone in the squad
Can spawn straight into a empty one seat jet at the spawn screen
Can spawn into any teammates( not just squadmates) vehicle

and lastly Server Browser for consoles

I miss the Euro fighter class. Would be a nice edition to have the accents again.

Maybe DLC at some point but I doubt it. The MEC should make a return though seeing as they seen to be the main baddie in the single player game.

Judging by the size of the playing field in BF them little feckers would run out of battery before you get there

Treyarch please please please don't put them in the next game, same goes for dogs.

I'm actually kind of disappointed in this list. There's not really that much new. There's even more yank crap than in BFBC2 and less interesting things in some places. I expected sort of double the amount of weapons and vehicles frankly :? They also removed the AUG as far as I can see, which =

Drones are in the game, though not in the form of RC Blowup Cars, check out the caspian border gameplay :P

Yeah I saw it in the trailer, I'll be buying BF3 because it doesn't have an RC XD, annoying little feckers.

I guess you could stick C4 to a drone to create a DIY RC XD though.

He must've read a different list...

WOW! talk about adding a few nails to MW3's coffin. It just gets better n better each time, really cant wait for this. Its gonna give CoD such a run for its money this time round

  21. Imaduck on 19 Aug '11 said:

Nah Uzi, I just read this list properly :? . When you get past the initial hype, there's actually not that much fresh here. There's about the same amount in most sections, sometimes less or more and a lot of the same stuff. My point was - with the amount they're pushing everything else, I expected they'd really crank this stuff.
There's some cool additions and swaps for sure, but there's not as much variety on some fronts. I kind of hoped they'd provide a more diverse range in BF3, including a wider global range of weapons and more of each class. The attachments thing looks great, I'm just kind of underwhelmed by the armoury choices.

There's a diverse range of the likes of RPG's etc, having 6 to choose from is great, that's the kind of level of options I expected. 16 Assault Rifles is not. 5 shotguns is less than BFBC2 and 2 of the 5 are auto-shotguns. I'm excited for this game. I'm just not so blinded by the bling that I'll miss areas that are somewhat lacking.

  22. Uzi77 on 19 Aug '11 said:

I know what you're saying, but there is a lot of stuff there. Most things don't need 3 reskins of the same weapon. I think they said somewhere that each weapon needs to feel different than the others. Same with the vehicles, they only need one for each role for each army.

Well, I'm happy with this selection overall, I like the sound of the drones/EODs being class specific, and not a station for all.

It will more than likely beat COD but the sales will tell the story. I'm getting both, but BF3 for PC I think is a must if it can handle it. My new one will be here soon enough. :)

  25. Malmo on 19 Aug '11 said:

One look at that list and i am well and truly hyped like hell for this game. So much customisation and content! excellent stuff, nice to see the addition of anti aircraft launchers, kind of necessary what with the additional aircraft, but it was sometimes bad enough being up against an apache with the one anti aircraft tank as your defence. Some moron ususally ends up getting it destroyed, but even if they don't, its open topped and the gunner is easily killed by a quality apache pilot.

I really like the inclusion of an infantry only mode, as i do often wish the vehicular influence wasn't there at times, particularly on certain maps. Although with that and hardcore mode also, i always feel like too many modes end up spreading the players a little too thinly and getting a good games can be a struggle. Particularly at certain times of the day, usually late at night, basically the only time i get to myself these days!
