Windows 8 app store in the works

Fresh details on Microsoft's new operating system for PC

Windows 8 will feature an app store when it launches next year, according to a list of features posted on the Microsoft Developer Network blog.

It makes sense considering the popularity of Apple's and the fact Windows 8 will be able to run on tablets as well as traditional desktops and notebooks.

It also seemingly explains Microsoft's bid to block Apple's trademark application for 'App Store' earlier this year, when the company argued the term is generic and one the iPhone maker's competitors should also be able to use.

Microsoft has said Xbox Live will be integrated into Windows 8, while unconfirmed reports claim the operating system will allow users to play Xbox 360 games on their PCs.
