Sony has released a tech specs list for its latest new PSP remodel, version E-1000, set to hit Europe this autumn.

Now it's released a specs list which reveals one other small omission - on-board stereo sound. The new PSP will be the first to only have one speaker on the unit, which means that you'll be restricted to monaural sound unless you plug in a pair of earphones.

I do like the idea of a handheld at a disposable price that you could buy on impulse or gift to a friend. When you think how powerful and ahead of the curve PSP was when it first arrived, it's pretty cool to now get that technology down to this streamlined and affordable sku.

I wonder if they have fixed the d-pad sensitivity on this model. Playing fighters on the PSP is a chore!

Why didn't they just cut the cost of the 3000 model? The mono speaker is annoying, but if the headphone socket is stereo,as suggested, that's not too bad,as you can plug in headphones or put through an amp/gaming chair, but still...

£100 for this or £115 for a 3DS? I know what I'd rather get.
A game or two for the 360, a curry, a 4-pack of Stella* and a new handbag for the Mrs to keep her sweet
*ok, by 4-pack of Stella I really mean't 1.5l bottle of diet Coke. I'm getting old you know!

Quick n00b question, how do you access stuff on the psp store without the wifi? Download it to the PS3 and then use a usb to download it to the psp?

Intesting question. Transfering from the PS3 would be one way. Also Sony have the Media Go app for the PC where you could also transfer media via usb. A PSP with no store, a far cry from the store-only PSP Go.

As a 'throwaway' portable games console, bringing it with you abroad for example, it's OK value. RRP might be about £90 or so, maybe less, no idea about conversion rates. Expect to see lots of game bundles with this too, maybe 2 or 3 older games plus console for about £100 or so, it's not bad value if you haven't got a PSP yet.

I wonder if the battery life will be longer from the toned down speaker and lack of wifi?
maybe they put a s**ttier battery in so the battery life is the same lolz
