Get an early taste of this year's series update now

As promised, Konami has launched the first of two PES 2012 demos, although only on PS3 and PC.

The Xbox 360 demo has been delayed until September. "This is due to unforeseen issues," the publisher said.

The PS3 demo's available on the PSN and the PC one can be found through the link at the bottom of this article. Based on a preview build of the game, it allows you to play ten minute matches with Manchester United, AC Milan, Porto, Napoli, Santos and C.A. Panarol, and also features Challenge Training elements that enable you to practice the game's new control systems.

A second demo based on the final, retail version of the game will follow in September. Get the full details through here.

Type it in the search, should come up, others have said it is there and are downloading. Gutted about the 360 demo myself. May have to try the PC version.

Will this be PS1/PS2 good OR PS3 bad? Please Konami, a return to form would be nice. Hard to imagine before PS3 I used to be a die-hard PES "fan boy". I just for old times sake would like to see Konami reclaim some of its dignity back, I will however be purchasing Fifa 12 this year after last years excellent Fifa 11.

    Downloading now (fingers crossed)...

    Woohoo. It's downloading.

Just finished my first match and I'm actually quite impressed- it plays really well and looks a lot better (although still not as smooth as FIFA). I'll still be getting FIFA 12, but its nice to know PES is starting to claw its way back.

Fifa's excellent, but still doesnt look to be addressing the problems that are inherent with the game, and theyre glaring big problems. whereas Pro Evo looks to be fixing some of the fundamental flaws that ruined what was an excellent game.

Ill end up buying fifa as most ppl i know play it online, but still think pro 11 was better than fifa 11 tbh, so am certain pro will be a better game this year too. The pro demos are also always nowhere close to finished product

Well I've played one match and I might as well have downloaded the PES 2011 demo for all the "changes" I've seen.

Same floaty ball, same dumb camera angle and same player movement, I can press the sprint button or try skill moves all I want but it never works.

I'll give it another few tries though.

Also I hope whoevers stupid idea it was to put an unskippable intro movie into a demo gets fired.

you're insane. so many things are different in 2012 compared to 2011. player movement, passing, off the ball controls and much more. overall there is much more fluidity in the game. I really think PES is going in the right direction (PES6) again :) Thank f#ck for that!
p.s. provided you play on PC you can delete pes12ci.sfd and pes12pv.sfd from your img folder to remove that intro ;) otherwise you are a console noob and can't be helped.

I don't think you know what you're talking about!

There are massive changes: defending has improved a great deal, the players now cover openings etc very well and respond to your positioning; Players are constantly making runs all over the place; the goal keeper ai has improved; and there are less fouls, ref plays the game on and off-sides are far less frequent.

Played a few more games now and it seems better than the PES 2011 demo (just) but it's not for me, can't stand the floaty ball and the dumb camera angle.

    Chill out PES fanboys.

Played few games myself and see plenty to admire, but much to dislike so far. Can't see ur floaty ball myself, it's the lacking ai thats annoying me. I have lots of posession , but nowhere to go with it, as they all stand like morons . Hopefully things will improve ny demo 2 , but currently unless it suddenly clicks and everything starts making sense , ita not as good as pro 11 IMO .

Just played it myself. Still a little flawed in places but it does have that indefinable 'fun' element and the attacking seems much more fluid with options this year (last year I spent most of my time screaming at team mates to make runs rather than running in a line with me).

I know FIFA is the better all round package but playing PES puts a smile on my face...

Anyone know how u make players make runs off ball , as its frustrating .

Potential to be best football game this year and most fun if they iron out few things

Seems better than the other PS3 versions I've played but that isn't saying much. I was always a fan of the original ISS PES for me was always decent but flawed so unless they completely overhaul the game mechanics then I doubt they'll ever win me over. Bring back Konami's ISS as most of the ideas being pilfered by PES and Fifa are taken from a game almost ten years old. Glad for people who like PES though, might make EA up their game and sort out more issue than they would otherwise.

Ok this game starting to click now and I'm really really enjoying it, and seriously contemplating this over FIFA .
For anyone as dense as me who was unsure how u make players make runs off the ball , u push the right stick in direction u want player to run

Just wait till you're controlling two players at once using your peripheral vision... takes a bit of getting used to, but could be useful!

As a total PES fanboy from the very first ISS PRO days It pains me to say it for another year but after playing around 8/9 matches I've come to the conclusion that although it has made some major improvements it is still inferior to FIFA11, never mind what FIFA12 might be like.

The 'floaty' ball (as has been mentioned) along with GK's that are worse than Massimo Taibi (I honestly didn't see a GK catch/hold onto any shots), shooting that is so inconsistent that I didn't know if it would be a power blast or a lame scuff at goal even though I was pressing the shoot button exactly the same each time just hasn't impressed me at all.

At lest the run animation doesn't make the players look like they have some sort of chronic back problems anymore... but it looks like FIFA has my purchase again this year, unless EA have turned it to s**t that is.

I'm really unsure about this floaty ball criticism ppl bandy about. If anything I'd say the ball movement feels better than FIFA 11, where if u hit a cross on the run it can deny all known laws of physics and swings back twenty yards with such curl that it can end up near the half way line. FIFA goalkeepers are either woeful or too good, with the ability to pull off point blank saves at full blast , or watching ball roll out two yards away for gk, standing in amazement as someone hits finesse and ball goes past them from 30 yards out, actually diving near the ball but because someone hit finesse they can't touch it.

Then there's the insane fouling of FIFA , which defies all logic, and is more akin to a UFC cage fight than football.

I'm sorry I'm with the pes boys on this one, I don't thunk u guys know what ur talking about. I love FIFA 11 , but it is horribly flawed in major ways. Even at this early stage demo , I'd take this over FIFA with a few refinements made to it.
Shooting needs fixing a bit, possibly through ball, although I'm kinda liking the fact the through ball doesn't destroy defences every time , and there's actually some weight to ball when u hit through balls over top. Players seem to be able to run through you at times when defending too , with Hulk and Falcao being far too good.

  23. Lurf on 25 Aug '11 said:

I must say that using the right stick to trigger player runs is a bit difficult for me still. I mean I can get the player running a bit but then I have to press pass and let go of the stick and the guy stops running. Have I held the right stick not long enough or? And I agree about the keeper. He let's through so many shots I can't believe it. As for defending, is it just me or does "pressure" hardly do anything anymore? The computer is so easily running past my defences... specially since sliding tackle seems to be less effective.
Overall I really like the changes though. Bit less realistic here and there but much more fluid gameplay.

I agree FIFA isn't perfect and I wasnt saying otherwise but IMO FIFA is still better than PES just now. I will still play more games of the PES demo until the FIFA demo comes out as some issues might be just me being s**t at the PES 'style' of gameplay considering I haven't played a PES game since last years demo.

Like I said though, Konami are on the right track and the improvements are there for all to see but they still have a good bit to go before they can claim the footy crown back.

Added it to my downloads list on PSN, will be interesting to see if there's been any change at all from the clunky PS2 engine they keep reusing. I won't be buying it but will check the demo out anyway. FIFA is too far ahead to warrant buying PES now.

Have to say so far i've been impressed with PES 2012. It's a significant improvement on each of the previous horror shows and it looks as though the Pro Evo series has taken a major turn in the right direction! I doubt this will be the year it can fully challenge FIFA but all the signs look promising as old school PS2 PES practically dominated my life each October.
