Deadly Premonition maker working on sequel and new IP

Director Hidetaka "SWERY" Suehiro thinking up sequel and prequel to bizarre Xbox title

Cult hit Deadly Premonition didn't break any sales records and its low-budget tech would have looked more at home on Dreamcast 10 years ago, but it was a fascinating Xbox 360 thriller. And there could be more from the series on its way.

Deadly Premonition director Hidetaka Suehiro (aka SWERY), has said he's currently working on both a new IP and another game in the Deadly Premonition universe.

"I can't talk about everything because there's a lot of opportunities right now," he said when approached at Gamescom last week. "But what I can say is that I'm making a storyline for a completely new game."

He went on to reveal: "And also I'm working on different types of Deadly Premonition-related projects. Trying to think of ways to create a sequel, that's definitely on the table, trying to create a prequel is also definitely on the table; and also a project to have more people play Deadly Premonition."

Suehiro says the surprise success of DP has garnered the interest of western publishers in his future projects, which is hard at work on as we type.

Deadly Premonition had players take on the role of FBI agent Francis York Morgan who travels to the fictional US town Greenvale to investigate a mysterious murder. Sounds normal, right? But Morgan, it seems, has a split personality and the ability to get information from cups of coffee.

Add this to demented enemies lurking in darker areas of the game, a wealth of bizarre and twisted characters and a trippy plot and you get a true nonsensical Japanese game that's unlike anything other game of recent years.

It was released in EU as a budget title by Rising Star Games in October last year.
