Microsoft is to release a 3D-related Xbox 360 update "most likely via Xbox Live in the coming days".

The site's carrying a picture of an option on the Xbox 360 dashboard which reads: "Enable 3D to use stereoscopic 3D in games and experiences that support it." Could the word "experiences" hint at wider 3D support for media services like Sky and Netflix?
The update is also said to introduce a setting which will detect TV size or allow users to input the size manually. We've left a message with Microsoft for comment.

Good or bad? How many here have a 3D telly and will wear glasses for hours of gaming?
I still don't believe in the technology, still waiting for a couple of generations of glasses free 3D TV first. It's also a bit 'me too' Microsoft.
But on another note if this is true, at least it extends the consoles life a bit more.

Good for 3D adopters I suppose but as a tech/gadget freak this whole 3D just doesn't interest me much at all.
Not until true glasses free 3D TV's come out will I be interested.

i've got a 3d tv and these option are already on the dashboard for me.

It's already on. Although the auto detect screens size is there it might not be active yet as I had to manually put my screen size in.

I've still got a 16:9 CRT TV in my room but it still works. When it stops working I'll probably get a Full HD TV, as there's not much point in getting a 3D TV until it's cheaper or more mainstream.
Good for people who already have a 3D TV I guess though.

Currently a 42" 3DTV in currys for £599
The same spec without the 3D is £499
So they are becoming cheaper

I have a 3D TV and a PS3, to say it hardly rocks my world is an understatement. Sky 3D is awesome though so all is not lost.

Good, the more 3d content available the better for people interested in buying a 3D set soon or already own one. I remember when I got my first HDTV and there was no content at all. At least with 3D the volume of content is increasing at a good rate and the prices are falling pretty quickly.
Hopefully more content will lead to more people investing in the current 3DTVs so it should mean more money is been spent on the development of glassesless 3DTV and then further down the line Holographic TV.

I'm just glad they aren't making such a stupid big deal out of it. It's there but they aren't doing what Nvidia and Sony did by hyping it.

Glad to see MS are standardising the 3D select option as I'll be looking to replace my 4 year old 32 Inch Sony Lcd next year with something bigger and preferably 3D. The 3DS swayed me when it came to 3D for games as it does increase immersion.
3D is likely to take the same route as HD in becoming standard in all tv sets in one form or another in the next couple of years so that tv manufacturers can keep the price of their sets artificially high like they are doing with iplayer enabled sets at the moment.

I'm all for 3D in gaming, its got the potential to immerse you further. Saying that, the only time I've played 3D was playing GT5 on a mate's PS3. Maybe it was because we were playing split screen but it didn't seem to add an awful lot. I was expecting to be able to judge the corner distance better...but maybe it's just coz I'm crap at it
But, yeah, yay 3D!
