Take-Two has announced an "expected" March 2012 US and European release for Rockstar's Max Payne 3.

"Max Payne 3 gave us an amazing creative opportunity to evolve one of our most iconic characters," said Rockstar founder Sam Houser. "We're excited to show fans a modern version of Max that pulls them back into his dark and twisted story."
Having been way too quiet about the third-person shooter for some time, Rockstar got us all excited with a new batch of screenshots late last month.
Here's Take-Two's official description of the game:
Max Payne 3 continues the tale of former New York City detective, Max Payne. Still haunted by the memories of his traumatic past, Max begins a new life working private security protecting a wealthy industrialist and his family in Sao Paulo, Brazil. When gangs target the family under his protection, Max is forced to fight to save his clients and clear his name, in a bid to, once and for all, rid himself of the demons that have tortured him for far too long.
Picking up where the release of Max Payne 2 from series creator Remedy Entertainment left off, Max Payne 3 is a true cross-studio collaboration between Rockstar Games' global development teams. The game utilizes cutting edge technology for a seamless, cinematic action experience, incorporating the latest advances in Natural Motion physics and a brand new iteration of Rockstar's own Rockstar Advanced Game Engine. The result offers highly-refined gameplay, with an extensive range of realistic weaponry, an intelligent cover system and sophisticated Bullet-Time mechanics.

I don't know why but I get an impending feeling of doom when I hear Max Payne 3(I hope I'm wrong).
Fan of the previous 2.

I have a bad feeling about this, The problem is, that it's not really Max Payne, is it. It doesn't look like him, it's not in a noir setting or in New York.
So why even use the name Max Payne, this is just a cash grabbing game using the name.

Nice! Good news, but I put my money on closer to next July or August 2012. Can't wait for another R* title to come my way!

Max Payne 3 poster:
Pretty Brazilian girl. Check.
Threatening gun-totting thug. Check.
Main character that looks nothing like Max Payne. Check.
I would love to be proven wrong, yet even if this game turns out to be fun I remain highly skeptical that it will have the film-noir style that made the first two games (especially the second one,) so memorable.

the noir setting has been done to death

I'm on the fence. I love the first two and think they were just perfect at storytelling but let's be honest, you can't run a game on bullet time anymore. updating it and including bullet time as a game tactic rather than the entire gameplay would make sense.
however, it may just turn out to be a copy of GTA IV and RDR. the general quality of games by Rockstar is good but they're all pretty samey. it looks like GTA IV, so far as even using the same blind cover fire animations.
for me - no Sam Lake and James McCaffrey, no Max Payne. it's already been confirmed that neither of these are involved.

I loved Max Payne 1 & 2 but I think moving Max from NY makes narrative sense - after all, why would he stay there after all he has been through. As time has passed, Max has aged a little - perhaps his hair receding has brought about the shaven head? And he's grown a beard - so what? What would make less sense is for him to look exactly the same. And play the same environment. And the game be exactly the same game...
I for one am looking forward to this - and to this news I say - yay!

And Bingo was his name!
Im still hoping to be proved wrong though!

When Max Payne 3 was first revealed in 2009 James McCaffrey was not involved, but in April he was actually confirmed by EDGE magazine to be not only voicing Max Payne but his full body motion has been used too.

Yes! Been excited about this game since it was confirmed all those years ago
In terms of story telling, the 1st and 2nd go down as some of the best in a game series. I have high hopes for this game both in terms of story and gameplay. And for those worrying about the lack of a noir style, there will be because it wouldn't exactly be Max Payne without it would it?

despite being a big fan of the previous games and not a fan of the new direction Im willing to give this a chance as it may be the first game made using rockstars seemingly one dimensional rage engine to produce gameplay that differentiates from their recent games so fingers crossed and that brazillian woman looks hot but shes no mona sax.

With Rockstar's track record of producing some amazing titles over recent years I've decided I'm going to be excited for this game. Loved the first two games and I think Max Payne 3 will be another epic Rockstar title..or I'm going to be really p*ssed!

i too agree with you gents!
its what ten years or so since the 1st so whats wrong with a little change, + they've stated that there are flashbacks to new york, and as long as they keep the sin city noir style i'll be more than happy!
fanboys, always asking for change then bricking it when sum1 does exactly that!
bottom line, come back max, we missed you!
