Battlefield 3 gets Operation Guillotine gameplay teaser trailer

New single-player mission shown off, more footage promised for next week

EA has put out a new trailer for a Battlefield 3 mission called Operation Guillotine.

According to the video description, it shows US marine sergeant Blackburn entering the city of Tehran as part of an operation to capture key members of the PLR leadership.

The end of the trailer promises more footage next Friday, which should be a nice way to round off the week.

EA said earlier this week that pre-orders for DICE's highly-anticipated shooter have reached 1.25 million units.

From here on in, Battlefield 3 shall be known as the Jesus Game, much like the iPhone is known as the Jesus Phone.

it's so good it has the ability to make blind men see again.

Please don't hate me, but when you strip away the visuals and fireworks, BF3's singleplayer doesn't look that exciting. That tank level shown a while back looked very slow. Visually astounding, but slow. And the Faultline trailer, once the ocular orgasms had finished, didn't impress much. This trailer was well put together though.

I know multiplayer's where it's at and will be worth my preorder alone, but DICE don't have a great pedigree when it comes to Battlefield campaigns and (aside from what they can do graphically with their great engine) there hasn't been anything shown to dispute that. I would so love to be wrong though.

(Thanks CVG for the youtube video, I could actually watch it)

Exactly! They are able to see pixelated buildings being blown up and falling down. Truly miraculous!

That doesn't bother me... I want a game to last longer than 5mins!

    looking good as per usual.

completely unrelated topic, recently checked my email and discovered i have been sent a beta key for assassins creed revelations on the ps3, dont have ps3 anymore so no use to me, anyhow if anyone wants it let me know (not even sure if the beta is live anymore).

Gadzooks! Looks lovely! The AI still looks suspect, but I think the campaign will be good. All in all, it doesn't matter as it is just a nice additional extra to the multiplayer.

Slow doesn't mean it'll provide longevity. Admittedly I don't know how it fits in to the whole campaign, it might be a necessary change of pace, but it reminded me of the Heavy Metal level (iwas it called that?) from BC2, which was the best level, but in pure gameplay terms was quite boring.

As I say, I have no doubt the game will be brilliant and I've already earmarked it for GOTY, but a good campaign will just be a bonus. At the moment it looks like standard military FPS gameplay disguised by incredible visuals and animation. If it proves to be better I will die of happiness, but I'm not holding my breath.

Cash prize? (Out of interest, what qualifies as stupid?)

I'm sorry but why the hell would anyone buy this on a console. On the PC this game is going to blow anything away. That video will no way look that good on a console.

    It's called pacing. :)
Moments of calm before the storm make the storm all the more dramatic.

I did consider that (in another post). As long as the storm comes then it won't matter. My worries will be moot.

I've probably failed to articulate what I want to say (hence accusations of stupidity :(). So I'll say it again. Battlefield 3 will probably be the best game to come out this year. It's just there's nothing revolutionary about the singleplayer. It took me a while to realise. I had just watched the Faultline trailer (the whole thing) for the third time and it hit me. You just point and click. I guess it's a pointless observation that can be leveled at all FPSs, as useless to think about as "life is meaningless, what's the point?". There's just nothing in gameplay terms that we haven't seen before.

To be honest, I'm bored so might have been trolling a little bit . But I did so politely and didn't say anything I don't believe. In case anyone missed it: BF3 will be the best game ever.

Uhh.... No one buys Battlefield for the single player game. Use the single player game as a practise for the Multiplayer game.

You criticise the game but have pre-ordered it that's "STUPID".

This game is beautiful! I know it's probably on a high end PC but it is beautiful!

I miss the amBX system, i had it for quite a while then the LED's were messing up so stopped using. Cant get replacements like you used to, as less and less are existing now.

    :(

    Er, for me because;
    1) It may not look as good on console but it will still look s**t hot from the console screens I have seen.
    2) Non of my mates play PC games
    3) I prefer pick up, plug in headphones and off gaming on a massive TV which doesn't need loads of cables halfway across my house
    4) I don't want to be pay £1000+ for a machine to play a £40 game on just for better graphics and perhaps spund (though my turtles look after that)

You choose PC which is cool, it's just not for the majority of gamers looking at the numbers.

As for this trailer it looks the cats balls, not quite sure how someone can say the SP is boring having only seen snippets of it :? However on saying that few military shooters really offer mega excitement in the SP department due to the very nature of the subject matter, or in MP for matter.

Pacing, yes... and realism! The graphics and the gameplay in Battlefield aim for a certain degree of realism, unlike the Rambo-esque COD-series. I loved how the tank level unfolded slowly and am looking forward to riding across that desert in a tank in anticipation of the coming battle...

If there's one thing that DICE do better than everyone else (in the FPS genre anyway) it's immersion.

    Fantastic teaser.

How is criticism stupid?! I said I'd preordered it for the multiplayer anyway. And I never said it wasn't beautiful, I'm just a bit wary the campaign won't have the gameplay brilliance to match its looks. As I said I hope I'm wrong; if the final release has the added bonus of an excellent singleplayer I will dance naked in the street, but based on what I've seen it'll be 'merely' above average.

And don't give out awards that don't come with cash prizes. I don't want it!
