Microsoft has announced it will intergrate Xbox Live into the next itteration of its its Windows operating system.

The news comes via Microsoft mouthpiece Larry 'Major Nelson' Hryb's blog, which states the service will bring "games, music, movies, and TV shows to your favorite Microsoft and Windows devices", which includes Windows 8 PCs.

It doesn't go into much detail beyond the initial announcement but says it has "much more detail to share about the capabilities of Xbox LIVE on Windows and look forward to the opportunity to do so in the near future".

Earlier this year, Microsoft's interactive entertainment marketing chief Mike Delman said the company expects the online service will be "the pervasive media service across devices".

Around the same time Microsoft's Andy Lees discussed the company's vision for a "single ecosystem" encompassing PCs, phones, tablets, and TVs, saying that it aims to create a "coherence and consistency" across all its devices "particularly with Xbox".
