EA shuts Australian Dead Space studio

Developer had reportedly been working on a triple-A game for three years

The Melbourne chapter of the International Game Developers Association has confirmed reports EA has closed Visceral Games Australia.

"Confirmation of EA closing Visceral has been received :( our best wishes to the 21 devs now out of a job #EAVisceral," reads an IGDA post on Twitter.

The confirmation comes after Kotaku was informed of the closure by a source this weekend. Visceral's Melbourne arm contributed to Dead Space, Godfather 2 and Dante's Inferno, according to the site.

It had also been working on a now cancelled triple-A Xbox 360 and PS3 game for three years. The site claims DICE CEO Patrick Soderlund, who is also vice president of EA's Games Label, decided that the title wouldn't be profitable.

EA's other Australian studios, Firemint and Iron Monkey, are not thought to be affected by the closure.

Really sad and unfortunate, best wishes to the team, and hopefully they can find work back into a field they love

My hatred for EA is growing again... I thought Dead Space 2 was a poor sequel.
