Sony has taken to the PlayStation Blog to announce an upcoming PS3 system update.
"A new PS3 system software update, v3.72, will be released soon," said Eric Lempel, vice president of the newly formed Sony Network Entertainment.
"With this minor update, system stability during use of PS3 format software and network services has been improved."
In a separate interview with Game Informer, Sony Computer Entertainment worldwide studios president Shuhei Yoshida acknowledged that PlayStation firmware updates can be somewhat intrusive, something the company hopes to address with the launch of Vita.
"I agree, it's very annoying when you only have one hour in your busy life to play a game, and when you have to spend 30 minutes out of that one hour to update the hardware," he said.
"So it's not necessarily the frequency of how we update, it's like you said - intrusiveness - of the current processes that we have on PS3 and PSP. I cannot talk about specific plans, but we are very aware of the issues, and we'd like to address those issues on PS Vita going forward."
